Channel 5 users will see Martin Clunes play the role of Huw Edwards in a new drama. Clunes is popularly known for playing the character of Dr. Martin Ellingham. He also appeared on Men Behaving Badly.

Huw was a Welsh news reporter at BBC TV. He resigned in 2024 due to a police investigation regarding a child por*ography offence. Later, he pleaded guilty.

The Guardian reported on the 17-year old boy who was being victimised. Channel 5's statement is reproduced below:

“How a vulnerable 17-year-old was groomed by one of the most powerful figures in television.”

Channel 5 has given a name to the series, Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards.

The series will show us how one of the most popular figures of BBC TV became the focus of a high-profile scandal. During a police investigation, he was charged with a child por*ography crime. Ben Frow (Channel 5's Chief Content Officer) said via Channel 5,

"This is an important and shocking story of how a man in a position of power and trust betrayed that status. By gaining exclusive access to the key individuals involved and those who investigated the story, we explore the human cost behind the headlines."

The story will also show us that he will be pleaded guilty in July 2024. The series will depict that how the scandal was exposed.

The career of Huw ended in disgrace when Sun exposed him.

The Sun reported that Huw Edwards had paid a teenager in return of se*ual pictures.

Two months later, the police investigated him and charged him with three counts of making se*ual images of children during a text conversation on WhatsApp with Alex Williams.

Huw Edwards was charged with six months in prison and had been suspended from his news presenting job for two years. Alex had been prisoned for 12 months. Huw was also charged as a sex offender.


Production details of Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards

Michael Samuels will direct this new series. He is popularly known for directing the TV shows like Any Human Heart and The Windemere Children. Angie Daniell will work as the producer along with the co-producer Krempelwood.

Paramount Pictures will join Wonderhood to bring the story to life.
