Bones actor Emily Deschanel recently spoke about the tough early days on the sets of Fox's police procedural show. In a podcast with David Duchovny (Fail Better), who also directed an episode of the series, Emily Deschanel revealed how intense and challenging it was to shoot for the first season of Bones. She said:

"I would joke that I would go home and just cry in a bathtub every night because I was just so overwhelmed. I come to set and my job was to know my lines and to know what I am supposed to do in the scene. And I look around and then the room start like to close in. I mean I didn't know I was having panic attacks but I was basically having panic attacks at the time."

Emily Deschanel shared that during Bones Season 1, she once showed up 30 minutes late after a commute mishap. This delay led to a serious talk with the series creator, Hart Hanson, who said the studio had concerns about her performance.

For more than a decade, Emily Deschanel played the role of straightforward and brilliant protagonist, Dr. Temperance Brennan, on the popular Fox series, Bones. She's currently co-hosting a rewatch podcast called Bone Heads. Created by Hart Hanson, this show is loosely based on the life of forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, who is also a producer of the show.

Apart from Emily Deschanel, the cast of the critically acclaimed show includes David Boreanaz, Michaela Conlin, T.J. Thyne, and John Francis Daley, to name a few. With around 86% critics' and 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, this police procedural series remains one of the popular shows of Fox to date. It premiered in 2005 and spanned across twelve seasons. The final season aired in 2017.

During the candid chat with David Duchovny, Emily Deschanel also opened up about her ADHD and dyslexia diagnosis. Talking about the diagnosis, she revealed,

"I think I was 11. I mean, I think a lot of people my age did not get diagnosed, especially girls. Yeah, I went to a million different schools. So I think it is also that you don't have the consistency of being at the same school, where people realize something's going on. I was halfway through some years. I probably was in part because I was dealing with that."

When Emily Deschanel enrolled at the American School in London, the teachers noticed her difficulties and had her tested. The school stepped in with real support, including a reading class.

When the host asked Deschanel about whether dyslexia hampers her life at the moment, she said,

"Now it's fairly minor. I think my ADHD I experience much more in my daily life now. I think the dyslexia, umm it takes me a lot longer to read things. I like listening to things on tapes a lot of times."

Speaking about Bones, she revealed that her condition did affect her while filming for the first season. She told,

"The first season was the most challenging to me. It's insane. I would say that once I figured out a system, they gave me someone to help me run lines. We didn't have late night almost never on Bones. That was the agreement. Hart Hansen said we won't give you something last minute."

Bones is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock, and Philo.
