I am definitely not going to love Reacher Season 4 if it does not manage to bring back Roscoe

Reacher Season 4 is already on my radar. But there’s one non-negotiable on my wishlist. And that's Roscoe Conklin. If she doesn’t come back, I’m sorry, I might just sit this one out.

Reacher is all about Jack and his brawn, his brains, his military skills, and his drifter kind of attitude. That's certain. But Roscoe brought a sort of balance. She gave heart to a show that could’ve easily just been muscle and mayhem. Her absence was actually felt in Season 2. I hoped, with every episode, for her return. And I honestly don’t think I can go through another chapter without Roscoe.

Reacher adapts one Lee Child book per season. And the stories are meant to be self-contained. The titular character is supposed to be a lone wolf. He is supposed to be drifting from town to town, solving crimes. He isn't supposed to have emotional attachments. That's how the character is.

But not all emotional attachments are created equal. Roscoe didn't feel like a side character or just another of Reacher's love interests. Even though she was. And that could be because she stood out. She challenged him and matched his moral code. She was one of the few people who could look him in the eye and tell him when he was being ridiculous. And that’s exactly why she needs to come back.

Reacher Season 4: Why Roscoe belongs in this season (and every season after)

From a book purist’s view, Roscoe doesn’t show up again in the source material. And Season 3 already moved on to Persuader, with its own characters and plots. And this moving on is not always a pleasant experience because we know that we might not get to see some of our favorite characters from that season again.

Even Lee Child, the author of the Reacher books, said in an interview with Forbes:

"There is a different woman in every book and I'm hopelessly in love with them and I'm bitterly disappointed when the book finishes and I have to leave them."

So technically, the show’s not breaking any rules by keeping Roscoe out. But TV is a different matter. Shows evolve based on what works, and Roscoe worked. She was magnetic. Willa Fitzgerald gave the character so much charm that even the most die-hard fans had to admit she was outstanding as the titular character's love interest. If the creators are willing to bring back Neagley (who also isn’t in every book), why not Roscoe?

Another thing to take into account is that our drifter and Roscoe had chemistry. I’m not saying there needs to be a complete romance arc (although I wouldn’t complain), but the emotional tension between them added more depth to Reacher’s otherwise stoic persona.

He may not say much, but his connection with Roscoe said plenty. And she also isn’t the type to wait around to be saved like a damsel in distress. Roscoe took matters into her own hands and solved the clues. She stood her ground and earned her space as an equal.

Season 4 could benefit from bringing that back. Especially if the writers are aiming to dig deeper into Reacher’s humanity. What better way to explore that than through someone who once actually got him?

So yes, I’m emotionally invested. If Reacher Season 4 is going to mean anything to me beyond the standard festival of punches and threats, it needs to bring back someone who gave it soul. And for me, that someone is Roscoe.
