"I was in a very different season": American Idol's Thunderstorm Artis reflects on his musical journey on The Voice

American Idol Season 23's April 28, 2025 episode revealed the Top 10 artists, among which Thunderstorm Artis was also included. In his same-day interview with the Parade Magazine, Thunderstorm recalled his journey from another singing reality show, The Voice.

Fans might not know that Thunderstorm Artis was part of The Voice Season 18. After he finished second in 2020 on The Voice, he continued pursuing his musical career. However, he wanted to see if he had what it took to be on American Idol.

Reflecting on his The Voice journey, Thunderstorm Artis shared:

"I felt like I was in a very different season. I have two kids now, I have a wonderful wife, and I am in a different season of life, so I wanted to come on here and really showcase my artistry in a way that I didn’t get to do on the last show with some original music."

Fans witnessed the Top 12 American Idol participants delivering their performances to get selected for the Top 10 on the April 28, 2025, episode. After Ché and Filo were eliminated, the Top 10 artists, including Thunderstorm Artists, were announced.

Being in the Top 10, the singer reflected on the time when he participated in The Voice and secured the second position. In his recent interview with the Parade magazine, he said he wanted to see if he had what it "took" as life is about "taking chances":

"I really wanted to see if I had what it took. Life is all about taking chances, and so I wanted to take a chance on myself with this show."

During Hulu's Get Real event, Thunderstorm revealed:

"Its no shade on The Voice. It was an amazing experience. It really helped shape me in my younger years. Now, five years later, I just feel like I'm a different man and a different artist, and I'm looking forward to saying, Hey, America, do you remember me? and just showing them who I am."

Over the years, he has stayed friends with The Voice coach John Legend. Viewers might not be aware that Thunderstrom started his musical journey as a form of therapy. It started with his father, while he played keyboards on Michael Jackson's Thriller. After his father's demise, American Idol artist made it his mission to bring music as therapy for others.

Referring to the winning and losing, Thunderstorm said that ht was raised to give it "best" whether there was one person listening to your music, or millions.
