The acclaimed CBS drama, Fire Country, premiered in 2022 with season 1 and has since maintained a strong fan base. It centers around Bode Leone, played by Max Thieriot, who also happens to be the show's creator.
However, Fire Country isn't just about Bode's journey from being an inmate to a brave firefighter, as the show also focuses on other firefighters and their challenges. One of the central storylines in this drama is undeniably Bode and Gabriela's relationship, and I think it's high time that the writers move on from his duo.
Bode and Gabriela's relationship started with mutual attraction but was fraught with complications. In the beginning, Gabby was involved with Jake, who's also Bode's childhood friend. Despite the love triangle, she finally started a relationship with Bode, but the two eventually got separated.
Then, in season 2, it was Diego, with whom Gabby decided to walk down the aisle, but their wedding was ruined. At the same time, both Bode and Gabby were experiencing unsolved feelings for each other.
There has been a constant back-and-forth between Bode and Gabriela in all three seasons, as they break up, make up, and then feel confused, which has become quite exhausting and repetitive to watch.
Keep reading to explore why Gabby and Bode's relationship isn't healthy at this point.
Bode and Gabriela are unlikely to end up together in Fire Country

Honestly, we already understand that the trajectory of Bode and Gabriela's romance in Fire Country has become more of a series of obstacles than it has turned into clarifying points. What was once a promise for a future slowly blossomed into an indecision-filled cycle of tension and emotional repetition.
While executive producer Tony Phelan said they are "committed to saying that the Bode-Gabriela story does not end", the duo's current on-screen reality tells a different story. Their relationship has neither changed nor progressed.
Phelan continued:
"We’re hoping that we can bring that character back, because we think that they have such great chemistry, and the audience is really invested in the two of them."
It's a true oversight how the creators keep putting Bode and Gabriela in an unending cycle. In every season, they go through the same loops: there is a spark, then a disaster, and lastly, they come back together without resolution.
Instead of progressing, their dynamic has become a tug-of-war between what they want and what they can give to each other. And with Gabriela now stepping away from Edgewater, at least for a while, the show has been handed a natural exit from this storyline.
Bode should stay with Audrey in Fire Country
As seen in Fire Country Season 3, Bode got into a relationship with Audrey, while Gabriella was hopeful about Finn. However, it turned out that Finn is obsessed with her and didn't even hesitate to put Gabby's life in danger.
In the season 3 finale, it was Audrey who took charge of protecting Gabriela from Finn and did her best. Audrey knows about Bode and Gabby's past relationship but never brings it out, even when she's with Bode.
Not only this, Audrey also seems to be giving Bode his time to move ahead in life. At this point, I feel like Bode should consider a serious relationship with Audrey in Fire Country and completely move on from Gabriela.
It's also notable that neither Bode nor Gabriela has truly grown when they’re together. Their relationship often distracts from their personal development. That’s not the kind of pairing that lasts in the long run, especially on a show trying to evolve beyond romantic tropes.
So while the writers may still plan the idea of reuniting them in the future, the audience has already been through that a number of times. It's hard to imagine how Bode and Gabriela might end up together in any sort of refreshing or earned way in the future seasons. And maybe that is for the best.
