The Wheel of Time, the series based on Robert Jordan's novels, was just cancelled by Prime Video. The show's abrupt end has left many plots and stories unexplored. While Rand is the protagonist of the show, other characters also had interesting plotlines yet to be discovered.
The Wheel of Time show had differences that set it apart from the books. While this made some fans upset, it offered a fresh outlook as well. One such difference that I was eager to see was Elayne's journey and what she would do with the ter'angreal rod.
Elayne might have been a major character in The Wheel of Time season four if it hadn't been cancelled.
The third season of The Wheel of Time ended the way the book The Shadow Rising did. If the show were to follow the books for season four, it would most likely be based on The Fires of Heaven. And if that were to happen, there was a good chance we'd see Elayne use the ter'angreal rod she acquired to kill Rahvin.
The Wheel of Time series deviated quite a lot from the books when they decided it would be Elayne (played by Ceara Coveney) who acquires the ter'angreal rod. It was stolen by the Black Ajah from the White Tower and can emitt balefire. While in the books, we see Rand use balefire to kill Rahvin, the show might have been hinting at Elayne taking Rand's place if season four were to happen.
Balefire is one of the strongest forces in The Wheel of Time saga. It doesn't just turn its victims into vapour, but makes sure that the target cannot be reincarnated by the Dark One. This means that balefire destroys its targets once and for all.
In season three of The Wheel of Time, we see that Rahvin, disguised as Lord Gaebril, was influencing Elayne's mother, Queen Morgase Trakand, through his power of compulsion. Elayne is informed of Rahvin's true identity by Thom Merrilin. Given that she is heir to the throne of Andor, it would make sense for her to use the ter'angreal rod to destroy Rahvin and save her mother.

Besides, if season four was greenlit, and it followed the basic plot of the books, Rahvin would be the main antagonist of the season. While Rand is the one to destroy him in the books, it would also make sense if Elayne took Rand's place in this context. Rand is the Dragon Reborn, but he is not the only interesting character on the show. Plenty of other characters need to be explored, and if some of Rand's adventures are lived by other characters, it wouldn't affect the main plot too much.
For all we know, Rand's story might have taken a different path with Moiraine suggesting he needs a trainer in season three. If that were to happen, Rand would have a lot on his plate like meeting Mazrim Taim, understanding his power better, and entering the plotline of the Black Tower.
I'm not saying that Elayne couldn't have explored adventures of her own, that were designed specifically for her. She definitely could. But given how season three portrayed her and the new power she has in her grasp, it wouldn't be totally unrealistic if she were the one to protect her mother and kingdom from Rahvin.
But alas, The Wheel of Time has been cancelled, and we will likely never know what could have been. If any platform were to ever pick it up again, I hope we get to see this plotline explored.
All seasons of The Wheel of Time are streaming on Prime Video.
