I had no idea Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki played the Winchester brothers in a Supernatural anime series

The CW's longest-running fantasy series Supernatural has enjoyed immense popularity since its debut and its conclusion after a fifteen-season run in 2020.

Like many other fans, if you're also looking for something to fill the Supernatural void left since 2020, I have discovered an anime series based on the show (titled Supernatural: The Anime Series) which even features Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as the Winchester brothers.

Based on Seasons 1 and 2 of the original show, this anime series was first released in Japan and produced by a Japanese anime studio with Eric Kripke (creator of the original show) being credited as the project creator.

While Ackles voiced for only two episodes as Dean, Padalecki voiced for his character Sam in all 22 episodes.

I am sure discovering this Supernatural anime is a dream come true for all the OG fans

While The CW's show has a massive (and still active) fandom, I am sure this anime series might have slipped the radar of many. The anime series, titled Supernatural: The Anime was first produced by the Japanese anime studio Madhouse and Shigeyuki Miya and Atsuko Ishizuka served as co-directors on the project.

Following its success in Japan and the flagship series' success in America, it was also made available on Blu-ray and DVD box sets by Warner Home Video in July 2011 in the US. Unfortunately, it was released for only one season, consisting of 22 episodes in total.

The most exciting part about the English version was that Jared Padalecki lent his voice for the character of Sam Winchester, while Canadian voice actor Andrew Farrar voiced Dean Winchester.

Jensen Ackles couldn't lend his voice to Dean due to scheduling reasons but he managed to voice his character in the last two episodes. Therefore, the series still retains the original Winchester brothers' touch, albeit partially. However, the audience also praised Farrar's efforts while voicing for Dean's character.

I think Supernatural: The Anime Series retains the charm of the original show

In the 22 episodes, the Supernatural anime series successfully covered Seasons 1 and 2 of the original show, while also introducing some original storylines. While the emotional punch and spooky elements of the flagship show are retained faithfully, the anime series actually takes one step ahead and introduces some new and exciting storylines.

Every fan will agree that the initial seasons were the best, when the Winchester brothers were starting their monster hunting, while simultaneously trying to solve the mystery behind their mother's death. If you are also a fan of the initial storylines, the anime might be the perfect watch for you.

The anime does a decent job of adapting the Winchester brothers' story in animated form.

Regarding the canon, the anime series has adapted some iconic episodes from Seasons 1 and 2, including 'Roadkill', 'Skin', 'Dead Man's Blood', 'Devil's Trap', and more.

While there were a few hits and misses with the original storylines, I think Episode 6 'Till Death Do Us Part' even added depth to Sam's story. The episode saw him going back in time and meeting Jessica for the first time.

The two-part finale titled 'All Hell Breaks Loose' (where Ackles voices for Dean) is directly adapted from the Season 2 finale and adds its animated twist to the story, making it an enjoyable experience.
