Among the K-dramas that offer a slice-of-life storytelling with a focus on mental health and self-discovery is Our Unwritten Seoul, which premiered in May 2025. It was made available on the local TV channel, tvN, and Netflix for the international audience.

The K-drama follows the emotional journeys of two twin sisters, Mi-ji and Mi-rae. Feeling overwhelmed with their current situations, they decide to exchange lives as a way to escape their personal issues and reconnect with themselves.

Mi-ji, the younger twin, once had a promising future as an athlete, but everything fell apart after an injury ended her career. On the other hand, Mi-rae has been dealing with a high-pressure corporate job in Seoul.

Since actress Park Bo-young played this double role, the actress opened up about her experience in an interview with The Korea Times. The Strong Girl Dobong Soon star said:

"I was so scared, wondering what gave me the courage to think I could pull this off with confidence."

She continued:

"What if it just looks like 'Park Bo-young 1' and 'Park Bo-young 2,' or what if there's no real difference? I just wanted to run away the night before the first shoot."

In Our Unwritten Seoul, Park plays not just one role, but essentially four. She mentioned this was even harder than her famous role in Oh My Ghost, where she shared the screen with Jo Jung-suk, Kim Seul-gi, and more to act possessed.

As previously explained, Park Bo-young leads the cast of the hit K-drama Our Unwritten Seoul, taking on the dual roles of Mi-ji and Mi-rae. It’s been a challenging experience for her, as the twin sisters have completely different personalities, and she was determined to make sure viewers saw them as two distinct individuals.

Park Bo-young said:

"These characters really needed to feel like two completely separate people, so I relied entirely on my imagination."

The actress continued:

"We did use stand-ins; someone would play Mi-ji when I was Mi-rae, and then switch when I was Mi-ji, which helped with lines."

She explained how she and the team tried using stand-ins to help with scenes where both twins appear. They even looked for body doubles with similar builds to make it believable. Still, differences like varying sitting heights or mismatched eye levels posed challenges.

Eventually, Park ended up marking her own eye level on props so she could act out both parts solo while looking at those markers as visual references. Park also admitted that Our Unwritten Seoul was a drama she felt strongly connected to from the start.

She said that even if the role had originally been offered to someone else, she would have felt the urge to fight for it. To her, the story wasn’t just compelling. It was necessary.

What stood out most was how the drama brought together a cast of characters who were all flawed in different ways, whether emotionally, physically, or mentally. Yet, it handled those imperfections with sensitivity, not pity or judgment.

Our Unwritten Seoul is available to stream on Netflix.
