At Fan Expo Boston, where Screen Rant was present, Hayden Christensen attested to his desire to keep playing Anakin Skywalker following Ahsoka Season 2. He made it clear that it is up to Lucasfilm and the producers, but expressed his enthusiasm:

"One hundred percent… I would love to, yes. If the powers that be decide that's something that they want to see, I would be there in a heartbeat."

Christensen first became a part of the Star Wars franchise with Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005). His recent return in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka reinstated the character to an active story. In accordance with Screen Rant, his willingness for future productions indicates the continued applicability of Anakin to present-day Star Wars material.

Production for Season 2 of Ahsoka began in spring 2025 in the UK. The season will be coming in 2026 to Disney+, with Christensen set to reprise his role alongside Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ivanna Sakhno, Rory McCann, and Lars Mikkelsen. Eight episodes are set for the upcoming season.

Hayden Christensen's role in Ahsoka Season 2

Anakin showed up in the first season in scenes related to Ahsoka Tano's history. Christensen's official return guarantees the continuation of that continuity, adding, hopefully, new aspects to Ahsoka's journey.

His character continues to be a crossover between the prequel trilogy and modern-day Star Wars shows. Although plot details are yet to be revealed, his inclusion is set to facilitate important evolutions with prominent characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn. His interest in reprising Anakin past the second season indicates room for more appearances in upcoming productions.

Production and cast updates

Production on Season 2 started in April 2025 in the United Kingdom. In the wake of the death of Ray Stevenson, Rory McCann has now replaced Baylan Skoll. Rosario Dawson reprises her role as Ahsoka Tano, along with Natasha Liu Bordizzo reprising Sabine Wren, Ivanna Sakhno reprising Shin Hati, and Lars Mikkelsen reprising Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Sakhno has called the current shoot more complicated compared to the first season. The narrative would continue from Season 1's finale, with attention placed on outstanding issues, such as Thrawn's role as the main threat.

Release Timeline

No premiere date has been officially released. According to Forbes, Season 2 is expected for a summer release in 2026. The time lapse between the initial season's release in 2023 indicates the scale of the production and how it will fit into other Star Wars productions.

The release is anticipated to be preceded by The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is due for theatrical release in May 2026. Industry insiders hint at potential story connections between the two, based on converging timelines and characters. Season 2 will be streamed solely on Disney+.

Franchise outlook

Christensen's announcement at Fan Expo Boston reflects a continued willingness to be involved in the future. His comeback in Season 2 guarantees that Anakin Skywalker continues to be a part of ongoing Star Wars narratives.

The series itself remains to incorporate stories from The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian, making it a central piece in Lucasfilm's connected slate. Production has already begun, and Christensen is said to be ready for more. Ahsoka will continue to be a major component of the franchise's TV roster.
