Six days after the finale of The White Lotus Season 3, Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood sat down with Variety to address rumors about their relationship. Goggins explained that unfollowing Wood on Instagram was part of his process to move on from the character of Rick, and he made it clear,

“I love this woman madly,”

Walton Goggins explains his social media choice for playing a role in The White Lotus

In a joint interview with Variety on June 4, 2025, Goggins clarified why he unfollowed Wood. He explained that stepping away from her account was part of his way to cope with playing Rick, a character who experiences intense emotional events in Thailand for The White Lotus. Goggins emphasized that stopping his follow was not a sign of any personal conflict.

He said, There’s no feud. She is special to me”.

He also compared Wood’s talent to that of actors like Goldie Hawn and Meg Ryan, noting that his decision had nothing to do with any disagreements.

Aimee Lou Wood comments on the focus on social media

Wood joined Goggins in that interview, urging fans to look beyond Instagram. She labeled the focus on online followers a “misguided cultural priority” and encouraged attention to their characters from The White Lotus, Chelsea and Rick. Wood shared that filming in Thailand was emotionally challenging for both, as Rick’s storyline mirrored Goggins’ feelings of loss. She noted that the cast formed a close bond, making rumors of real-life drama feel unfounded.

Another moment that fueled the rumor mill was when Goggins praised a Saturday Night Live sketch that lampooned Wood’s character in The White Lotus. Wood had criticized that sketch earlier, so fans believed it indicated some tension between them. Goggins stated that he had not seen Wood’s reaction to the SNL parody before he posted.

Once he recognized the confusion, he deleted his social media comment and reached out to Wood privately to ensure there were no hard feelings. He intended to clarify a misunderstanding, not create one.

Reaffirming friendship and moving forward

Towards the end of their Variety interview, Goggins re-followed Wood on Instagram, signaling their friendship was intact. Both actors hoped this conversation would end speculation and shift focus back to the show, rather than their off-screen relationship. Goggins described The White Lotus set as a “pressure cooker,” but he and Wood supported each other. They want fans to remember their characters, not be distracted by social media rumors.

Overall, Goggins and Wood clearly stated on June 4, 2025, that their bond is strong. What appeared to be a feud was merely two actors from The White Lotus processing an intense role and adjusting to life after filming concluded. With their joint statements and increased social media following, they hope this saga will be put to rest.
