Ahead of the August 21 premiere date of Peacemaker Season 2, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television recently dropped a trailer for the upcoming show. While the latest trailer for Peacemaker season two effectively brought back John Cena's Christopher Smith, a.k.a. Peacemaker, it further hinted at a long-standing DCU theory, almost hinting that now is the time that the said theory is put into practice. The theory runs that the sophomore season might, in a way, serve as an adaptation of the Justice League International, or JLI, comics series.
It is a known fact that Christopher Smith would be joined in his efforts by Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. However, the trailer also indicated the presence of Green Lantern, Max, and Hawkgirl in the upcoming season, suggesting an extensive crossover. Here's everything that we know.
Peacemaker Season 2 might adapt elements from the Justice League International
The teaser for Peacemaker Season 2 begins with Christopher Smith being turned down in an interview for a place on a superhero team. Those on the panel include Maxwell "Max" Lord, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl. This presence of multiple superheroes has given rise to speculations that the upcoming sophomore season will adapt certain elements of the Justice League International comics series.
The JLI started appearing for the first time back in 1987. The composition of the team included Martian Manhunter and Batman, in addition to several other obscure and lesser-known characters. DC forbade the creators of this series to use the more iconic characters in their arsenal, such as Superman, since they were devoted to having separate narrative series of their own. In case the second season of Peacemaker continues along the lines of the JLI, it could come to assume a place of increased significance in the new DCU as revamped by James Gunn.
John Cena speaks about Peacemaker Season 2
Following the huge success of the show's debut season, anticipation was rife until now about the next installment. In the recent change and overhaul in the DC machinery, star John Cena had previously spoken in an interview with Variety magazine about the second season, remarking:
"What you got to understand and keep in mind is Iām the guy who plays Peacemaker, So when we come out with a show and itās the No. 1 show on Max and, finally, we take a character who is supposed to be dead, bring Peacemaker back to life, and people enjoy the universe and want to see more of it ā but then you have a shift in the structure of who is calling the shots over at DC. James and Peter actually both called me and said, āYou know what, we want to take some time to do this right. But itās just going to take a little time.ā So it was crazy to know we did something people want, they want more of it, letās do it again."
He further added:
"And everybodyās like, āNo wait, we just got to do a few things first. And we have this whole plan, and itās all going to work together. So if you just trust us, weāll be okay.ā And it seems like forever ago, now that weāre filming every day, it seems like it will be just right around the corner that weāre watching Season 2.ā
The second season will premiere exclusively on Max.
