The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 8 looks like it will deliver the most unpredictable finale the show has ever had. Titled "My Mind is Made Up," the season finale will pick up right after George Russell is shot point-blank by a fake courier, just moments after his butler Jones was gunned down. Whether George survives remains the biggest question, but that’s not the only thing at stake.

Bertha Russell, who boldly declares “I’m never wrong” in Season 3 Episode 8 preview, is preparing for the most important event of her life: a high-society ball that could decide whether she finally dethrones Mrs. Astor as New York’s social queen. With Ward McAllister exiled and a long list of enemies mounting, the stakes for Bertha’s guest list are higher than ever. This isn’t just about power anymore; it’s about legacy.

Oscar Van Rhijn’s private life might also blow up. After John’s sudden death and a secret inheritance, Oscar nearly outed himself to Agnes. In the finale, he reconnects with someone from his past, hinting that his walls could finally break down.

Meanwhile, Marian and Larry are still emotionally stuck, Peggy’s future with Dr. Kirkland depends on a single conversation, and the identity of George’s shooter, possibly Clay, could reveal everything.

The show’s structure has shifted all season. It started in the Wild West and ended with two attempted murders. With season 4 already approved, this finale might tear everything apart just to rebuild it. If Bertha is right, and she’s never wrong, then everyone else is about to find out how far she’s willing to go to win.

Season 3, Episode 7, titled Ex-Communicated, ended with its most violent moment yet, George Russell being shot inside his own home. A courier pretending to deliver a package pulled a gun, shot Mr. Jones, the butler, and then aimed at George. The screen went black before revealing whether George survived. That shocking scene followed a series of personal betrayals, heartbreak, and power struggles.

Ward McAllister published a barely disguised book revealing personal details about New York’s elite. He thought that changing names would protect him, but Mrs. Astor made it clear he was done. Their final confrontation ended with her cutting him off completely, which emotionally devastated both of them. At the Russell house, the staff set a successful trap to find out who the mole leaking gossip was. It turned out to be Miss Andre, whose motives are still unclear, but her exposure hit the household hard.

Oscar Van Rhijn continued to mourn the death of John Adams. After receiving a house and financial gift from John’s sister, Oscar almost revealed everything to his mother Agnes. Marian, sensing the danger, stepped in before he said too much. Meanwhile, Dr. Kirkland’s mother confronted Mrs. Brown and uncovered Peggy’s past. She later used this against Peggy, expecting it to end her son’s courtship.

Elsewhere, Gladys and Duke Hector grew closer, confirming Bertha’s matchmaking efforts. Larry tried to assure Marian that nothing happened between him and any other woman, but their relationship remained strained. George argued with Bertha again about her need for control. He also had Clay fired, raising questions about whether Clay retaliated. Everything that happened in this episode moves the story toward The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 8, where any character could lose everything.
