I'm still not over these major mistakes in The Conners Season 7 that made the finale underwhelming

The Conners came to an end on April 23, 2025, after running for 7 seasons and 112 episodes. The show came to be after Roseanne was revived for a 10th season but had to be canceled because of Roseanne Barr, the lead’s controversial tweet. Therefore, after disguising her exit as an overdose storyline, The Conners took shape, and it retained the main cast of Roseanne.

The official synopsis of the show, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads,

“The Conners continue to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford, grappling with parenthood, dating, financial pressures and aging in working-class America; with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”

While the show was quite popular among the fans, one issue that has stood out now that the series is over is its lesser number of episodes in The Conners final season, which prevented it from wrapping up all the storylines properly.

The Conners Season 7 consisted of only 6 episodes

Sitcoms generally follow the structure of 15+ episodes per season. Roseanne followed the same pattern, and most of the previous seasons of The Conners also had more than 15 episodes. Moreover, since the runtime of these episodes is generally less than 30 minutes, the numbers are needed to tell the stories properly every season.

However, The Conners Season 7 consisted only of 6 episodes, which naturally hampered the organic process of bringing the series to an end. A number of important story arcs could not be finished off properly, and the fates of certain characters also remain unknown.

Emma Kenney, who plays Harris Conner-Healy in The Conners, talked to TV Line about the same and mentioned

“It definitely is difficult to wrap the whole world up in just six episodes... It does leave a few open-ended questions towards the end.”

For instance, one character who did not get proper treatment in terms of storyline is Jerry, the youngest of the Conners. While it was mentioned that he had gone on a fishing trip, he never appeared in the show, and no substantial information was provided about his character either.

Moreover, Dan had also mentioned that he was father to three kids, and their storyline was also supposed to be explained throughout the series. Unfortunately, that also did not happen, and Jerry remained a mystery to the audience as The Conners concluded.

Therefore, a lack of episodes in The Conners Season 7 has rather negatively affected the finale, as viewers are left with questions that will never be answered. Had the season been given more episodes or a longer running time, it could have been a more appropriate farewell to Roseanne as well.

The Conners can be streamed on Netflix.
