I wasn't ready for Andor to reveal Star Wars most dangerous weapon- And from this character?!

Andor Season 2 wrapped up on May 13, 2025, with the intense three-episode finale. Created by Tony Gilroy, this political spy thriller drama is a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One.

Andor has always been a masterclass in subtly weaving its rebellion-centric narrative, with a focus on spy thriller, quite different from a typical Star Wars. But at the end of the series, the show delivered something unexpected.

The Death Star, the galaxy's deadliest weapon, wasn't name-dropped by a rebel hero or rogue operative. It was uttered by the Empire's most ruthless devotee and the strategic supervisor of the Imperial Security Bureau- Dedra Meero, played by Denise Gough.

The moment lands like a gut punch. Dedra- the Empire's most unhinged and cunning hunter has unwittingly stumbled upon the Empire's most guarded secret. The irony is that the woman who dedicated her life to the Empire becomes the one to expose the weapon that will ultimately unite the Rebellion.

Star Wars' Andor: Dedra Meero was always the one who could do it

Dedra Meero was sent to the Nakrina prison because she accessed the 'protected' Death Star files to find leads on Axis. Even though she managed to get information on Axis, Director Orson Krennic accused her of being a rebel spy and aiding Loni Jung to get some crucial information. Loni, on the other hand, passed on the information to Luthen.

From the first scene, Dedra Meero stood apart from the imperial ranks. While her colleagues were too busy finding anomalies as petty crimes, Dedra identified them as evidence of a rebellion. However, her obsession was also the reason for her downfall. Dedra isn't a hero or even an antihero- she's a true believer, a woman who sacrificed everything. Her rotting in the prison cell, just like any other nameless casualty, is poetic justice at the highest order.

The Death Star wasn't just a weapon, but a symbol of the Empire's arrogance- And who better to expose it than Dedra Meero, the ruthless hunter who finally became the hunted. A true believer who learned too late that her loyalty meant nothing.

What did Denise Gough say about her character Dedra Meero's fate in Star Wars' Andor?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Densie Gough, who plays Dedra Meero in Andor, opened up about her fate in the series. She said,

"It's important that a character like her has consequences. You want to play sides of her that elicit empathy from the audience, but not to the point where you completely forgive."

She continued,

"Yes, she had a terrible childhood. She grew up in essentially a cult. She's brainwashed, but she shows no remorse. She doesn't ever say, 'I can't believe I did that.' To the very end, she's still Empire. So there has to be consequences."

Additionally, she also shared a probable storyline of Dedra's spin-off. She told Entertainment Weekly, the plot might delve into the post-prison plot- Dedra in her 80s, who had started a cult in the prison itself. A typical Dedra-like thing to do, isn't it?

Nonetheless, I wasn't ready for Andor to reveal the Death Star like this. But now that it has, I can't imagine it any other way.
