The classic sitcom Friends premiered in 1994 and featured several actors whom we came to love. Whether it's Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, or Matt LeBlanc, these actors later became known for portraying the characters in the show. However, we would not have thought of a Law & Order: SVU connection with Friends until star Mariska Hargitay revealed that she auditioned for the beloved sitcom.

While appearing on the podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the SVU actress made a revelation about wanting to be in comedy shows and have a career like Poehler. To do that, she had auditioned for various comedy shows of the time, which also included Friends.

She also revealed the character she auditioned for and said:

"I think it’s Monica - so long ago, again."

More on this in our story.

Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay auditioned to play Monica's role in Friends

Hargitay has won many hearts with her portrayal of Olivia Benson in the classic procedural series. Her character's drive to protect the victims and for being a reliable leader of a squad that deals with victims of horrifying crimes every day has made her one of the greatest characters on TV right now. But, surprisingly, that's not what the actress wanted to do.

In the podcast, the veteran actress shared that she wanted to show her funny side and wanted to be in a comedy show. She shared in the podcast that her preferred career path was to become a comedian, and she also auditioned for various comedy shows, which included Seinfeld and Friends.

She further revealed that it was the role of Monica that she auditioned for. But it went to Courteney Cox. Hargitay also talked about her preference toward comedy and that she always thought she would appear in a sitcom.

To add to her previous comment, she said:

"I always thought that I would end up being on a sitcom or doing comedy, that’s what I thought."

While she did not get a chance to appear in a sitcom like Friends, she did appear in a medical drama. However, it did not stop her from dreaming of being a part of a comedy-drama show. But her chance of being in a comedy show ended after she met a psychic recommended by her friends.

The man told her about the different career path she would end up in. She shared her conversation with the psychic in the podcast and said:

"He said to me, Amy, β€˜You see that face you’re doing right now? You see that face?’ … I said, β€˜Yeah.’ He goes, β€˜You’re gonna be famous for that face. You’re moving to New York, and you’re gonna be famous for that face."

However, Hargitay did not agree with him as she still wanted to become a comedian and told him that. According to her, he replied to her and said:

"I don’t give a rat’s a*s what you say."

Hargitay called this her "favorite moment in life". Hargitay later revealed that six months after meeting the psychic, she was offered the role of Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU.
