It seems the latest Invincible episode "What Have I Done?" delivers on the promise made in the mid-credits scene of the previous episode. It features the multiverse in a major way; the evil Mark Grayson variants teased at the end of the previous episode invade Earth and destroy multiple cities across the world. Invincible Season 3 Episode 7 is a turning point in this season.
The episode features several brutal fight scenes as the evil Mark variants don't share his morals, Atom Eve's brutal injury, a hero's sad death, and a new danger in the form of Conquest, a major antagonist from the Invincible comics. The synopsis for Invincible Season 3 Episode 7 reads:
"Earth’s greatest heroes join forces to fight an unimaginable threat."
Invincible Season 3 Episode 7 recap:
"What Have I Done?", the seventh episode of Season 3, unfolds over a period of three days. Much like the comic book issue (Invincible #60) it adapts, the multiversal war between our Mark and his evil variants lasts only an episode. But its impact will be felt for a while. Here are some of the major events that play out in Invincible Season 3 Episode 7:
- Angstrom Levy finally reveals himself to Mark
The episode opens right after Mark supposedly killed Angstrom Levy in the Invincible Season 2 finale. While his face is completely smashed, Angstrom manages to open a portal to a different dimension of the mysterious alien beings referred to as the Technicians. After exiling the Evil Mark variants, he finally reveals himself to our heroic Mark, and they have a vicious fight in which Levy almost wins.
His taunts finally anger Mark, who powers himself through anger and finally stops Angstrom. As Mark is about to deliver a killing blow to Angstrom, the latter escapes to the technicians. As the portal closes, Angstrom loses his hand, and he orders the technicians to heal him.
But they refuse to tend to his wound unless he submits to them and accepts working for them. Considering that he returns to the comics after this event, it is presumable that he submits to them. However, their goals remain mysterious for now.
- The evil Mark variants destroy everything
The mid-credit scene of the previous episode reveals that Angstrom Levy has collected eighteen evil Mark Grayson variants across the multiverse. Some of them seek different things, like taking over their respective dimension, while some are pure evil, and one of them wants to take Debbie out of this dimension with him because he lost his mom in his dimension and misses her.
However, their screen time in this 51-minute episode is just 30 minutes. At the half-an-hour mark, the eight of the surviving evil Mark Grayson variants confront Angstrom for not delivering on his promise. As they are about to attack him, he transports them to the same desolate wasteland from the Season 2 finale.
- Our heroes suffer losses
There goes our hope for Rex and Rae's relationship. Monster Girl, Bulletproof, and Rudy are attacked by an evil Mark variant, and Rex comes to their rescue. He tells Rudy to take Bulletproof and Monster Girl somewhere safe. Rex himself is critically injured, but before succumbing to the wound, he sacrifices himself and takes the evil Mark variant himself, reminiscent of Gambit from X-Men '97.
However, death is not the only loss our heroes suffer. Immortal and Kate retire to start a family, and Darkwing II is missing as he takes an evil Mark variant with himself to the Shadowverse. At the end of the episode, he is presumed dead.
- Cecil and Mark's relationship improves
On a more positive note, Invincible and Cecil's relationship isn't as hostile as it has been since the third episode of this season. Cecil even goes on to offer Mark the leadership position of the Guardians of the Globe, but Mark refuses. But they have more of a truce, where Mark will help the GDA every now and then.
- Powerplex is back
Looks like Powerplex is back in a more heroic capacity in this episode as he is helping people caught in the rubble. But he becomes more aggressive once he sees Invincible and tries attacking the hero. But Mark and Oliver hold Powerplex down until he has used up his power. Once he is powered down, Powerplex is arrested in front of people, and the villain publicly blames the half-Viltrumite hero, and people seem to agree with him.
- Conquest finally arrives:
Invincible fans are hyped up about Conquest as the Viltrumite antagonist finally having a speaking role in Season 3. Furthermore, the show's makers pulled a rug under the feet of the fans as they were expecting Jonathan Banks to voice Conquest; however, it turned out to be The Boys' Joe Kessler actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
The next episode, "I Thought You'd Never Shut Up" ,will be this Season's last, which will be released on March 13, 2025. Catch Invincible Season 3 Episode 7 on Prime Video.
