Invincible Season 4 is set to return in March 2026, and it will feature an episode with an original story that has no origins in the comics. Invincible follows Mark Grayson, a teenager who finds out he has superpowers. His father, Omni-Man, the most powerful hero on Earth, trains him to become the superhero he is meant to be. As Mark begins to develop his own powers, he uncovers shocking truths about his father’s darker legacy.

Invincible Season 4 will feature a first-of-a-kind episode that tells an entirely original story not rooted in the comics. The creator of the show, Robert Kirkman, confirmed the news during an interview with Collider at New York Comic Con. He also revealed which episode will feature the new storyline and offered a few new details about what fans can expect.

Invincible Season 4 will feature an original story from Robert Kirkman

Invincible Season 4 will not only feature an original story but one that is also written by Robert Kirkman. According to Kirkman, the idea is one he had wanted to explore for quite some time but never managed to include in the comics. The direction for including this new story became clear to him after Season 3’s finale. The episode featured a brief return from Clancy Brown’s Damien Darkblood and a mysterious mention of summoning someone with a “blackened heart” to assist his demonic master.

Speaking with Collider, Kirkman confirmed that this new storyline will be featured in Invincible Season 4, Episode 4, which is the only episode he wrote entirely by himself. As Kirkman said:

"I wrote the fourth episode. I can say that. I shouldn't have said that. I should have said what it was. It was a very special episode to me because it represents a new story that isn't from the comics, and so I wanted to tackle that."

Kirkman went on to explain that he worked closely with showrunner Simon Racioppa to shape the rest of the season. However, this episode wassignificant to him as it marks the first time Invincible goes beyond the original comics. The Season 3 post-credits scene offered another clue to what’s coming. In it, viewers heard the unmistakable voice of Bruce Campbell, best known for his work in the Evil Dead films, voicing an ominous demon. Kirkman also confirmed that Campbell plays a major role in Invincible Season 4 Episode 4, teasing fans with a few more hints.

Kirkman said to Collider:

"Possibly a big part of this aforementioned Episode 4, which, cat's out of the bag, I guess. So congratulations, Collider. Bruce was absolutely awesome. Huge part of that episode. He's an icon in the industry, and I've known him for a while, and was really excited that he was able to come in and do that voice. I don't want to spoil too much, but there's some cool stuff in that episode, and it's definitely off the beaten path, a big sidestep for what you’d normally expect from an Invincible episode, which is really fun and exciting for me. So, I hope fans really enjoy it."

Alongside this original storyline, Invincible Season 4 will continue telling stories based on existing conflicts. The long-anticipated Viltrumite War is getting closer; the empire’s ruthless leader, Grand Regent Thragg, will finally appear in the show and will be voiced by Lee Pace. Meanwhile, Conquest (voiced by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) remains a lingering threat, Angstrom Levy (played by Sterling K. Brown) is still alive, and the Sequids are preparing for invasion.

With a new story and a follow-up on all the existing threats, Invincible Season 4 is shaping up to be the show’s most ambitious and anticipated season yet. Invincible Season 4 will be released in March 2026, and the first three seasons are streaming on Prime Video.
