66-year-old actor Kyle MacLachlan, who plays Hank MacLean in Fallout season 2, recently talked about bringing his childhood skills on set.

David Lynch's Twin Peaks' agent Cooper isn't just a mastermind in solving complex murder mysteries, but is seen in a contrasting role in Fallout season 2. He appeared as the Vault 33 overseer and is revealed to be one of the architects of America's nuclear devastation in the new Prime Video series.

While speaking with People Magazine, he revealed another interesting trait about his character and how his childhood hobby helped him play it with ease and authenticity. As season 2 begins, Hank's story starts from where season 1 left it. Hank is making his way toward the ruins of New Vegas. MacLachlan teases that his character is ready with a calculated plan, though initially it is difficult to judge.

“He is hatching a scheme that we learn as the series progresses,” MacLachlan says. “And as things play out in the first few episodes, it involves a yo-yo.”

Read on to know what else MacLachlan revealed about his character Hank in Fallout.

Season 2 of Fallout was released on December 16, 2025, and picks up right after the events of Season 1, as explained by Kyle MacLachlan while speaking to People Magazine. He also teases how Hank exactly knows what he is up to with his journey to New Vegas.

"So we pick up with Hank pretty shortly after the end of season 1, when I've flown off into the distance and made my way into the wilderness, and coming upon New Vegas. Basically, it's a continuation of that same journey. He has an idea, he has a plan, he knows what he wants to do."

As mentioned, MacLachlan plays Hank in Fallout, and he revealed that Season 2 will feature his character reconnecting with Kyle's childhood hobby, it involves a "yo-yo". Fans must be wondering if it is a new quirky addition to the character, but no, it's entirely authentic. Kyle has performed all the yo-yo work himself, unlike other onscreen moments that rely on visual effects or stunt bodies.

He mentioned how the makers initially had some doubts, but Kyle was confident about his childhood skill.

“There was some worry when they brought up the idea,” he recalls. “‘How are you with a yo-yo? Do you need practice?’ And I’m like, ‘I got it. Don’t you worry.’”

The involvement of the yo-yo reflects the mindset of Hank. Though he apparently has settled into the rhythm of a corporate environment. He is getting involved in a lab experiment, and wearing tailored suits, his playful act of rolling a yo-yo appears to be subtle, but reflects his controlled and calculating mindset underneath this playful show.

MacLachlan also dug into the history of his skill and mentioned the Smothers Brothers, who actually popularised playing with the yo-yo in the 70s and 80s. When MacLachlan was growing up yo-yo was a major part of popular culture, while Duncan was the biggest brand in the US market.

"Smothers Brothers was a big yo-yo," Kyle explained jokingly, "that's an old reference for you right now." He continued, "I was a big Duncan yo-yos guy, and I was a big yo-yo kid when I was younger, so it was pretty easy to get it going."

Being a "Duncan yo-yo kid" meant someone who is seriously into the toy.

Therefore, we can say that in Fallout, even a childhood toy can signal something far more dangerous, and MacLachlan’s performance suggests Hank MacLean has just started to pull the strings.
