Irish Blood Episode 3 recap: Fiona investigates the MMA boxing glove

Even after being kidnapped and barely surviving in the previous episode of Irish Blood, Fiona hasn’t given up on finding the truth about her father’s death. She begins to look into the stuff left by her father in his briefcase, and an MMA boxing glove catches her eye.

As she looks into it, she finds blood stains and a cement block inside the glove, making her think about possible corruption in MMA fights. This also raises questions about why Declan’s briefcase has the glove, and could it be a clue about his murder?

She then inquires about underground MMA fights from Roisin and learns about a man named Caoimhin McIntyre, the former undefeated champion of the fights, in Wicklow. With the help of Musa, Fiona learns about the gym from the 1990s, now closed, from the logo on the glove.

Later, Roisin informs her about the death of Benji, Siobhan’s brother, who died during one of those illegal fights. It was revealed that Benji died while fighting Johnny, who is the cousin of Caoimhin McIntyre. This information made Fiona suspicious about everything, and she began to believe in foul play in Benji’s death.

Irish Blood Episode 3 recap: Fiona’s audacious request to Musa

We have seen in the first two episodes of Irish Blood how head over heels Musa is when it comes to Fiona. However, in Episode 3, he proves how far he can go to help Fiona. Fiona makes a bold plan to find out whether Johnny killed Benji.

She believes that if she can match Johnny’s DNA with the blood stains on the MMA glove she found in her father’s briefcase, it will prove that Benji was killed by him, with cheating in the fight by putting a cement block inside his glove. She convinces Musa to fight him so that he can get his blood on himself, which they can use to match the DNA.

While it's a completely reckless plan, Musa agrees to it and fights Johnny. Surprisingly, other than getting Johnny’s blood on himself, he also wins against Johnny. They use the blood, and it matches the blood on the other glove that Fiona had, resulting in Johnny’s arrest.

Irish Blood Episode 3 recap: Johnny sends a threatening message

While it might look like Fiona has been making progress in finding out more about the corruption in the small Irish town, in Irish Blood, several people around her appear to be suspicious. Episode 3 of the drama series showcased Musa and Fiona getting closer as he finally gathered up the courage to ask her on a date.

Further, with finding Johnny’s glove in her father’s briefcase, Fiona is sure that the McIntyre brothers were involved in her father’s death. It was also revealed that it was Johnny who threatened Fiona in the previous episode and asked her to go back to the US.

In addition, there might be higher powers involved in the murder, as Johnny sends a message to his boss about taking everyone down with him if he is not released from prison. This proves that there is someone who is controlling all the criminal activities in Wicklow, and that person could be anyone, even someone around Fiona.
