Disney+ and Marvel Television recently premiered a trailer for the upcoming show, Ironheart, which will finally give Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams center stage. The show, described as a six-episode event that premieres on June 24 with three episodes, is set after the 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The trailer is a first look at an Iron Man suit, which has been enhanced by magic in a first for the MCU.
First look at the magic-powered Iron Man suit in the new Ironheart trailer
The Ironheart trailer follows Riri Williams, a young, gifted engineer who is trying to make her mark on the world. Riri has a unique take on building suits, as we've previously seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; however, this time, she goes a little further than just building an incredible suit after dumpster-diving.
This time, Riri gets involved with a charming yet dangerous Parker Robbins, aka The Hood. Their involvement together results in an Iron Man suit, which has been enhanced by magic. However, when Riri discovers Parker's long-term plans, she understands how grossly she misjudged him.
The Ironheart series will also explore Riri's past and her connection with her stepfather, from whom she got the knack of breaking things down and then putting them back together. This will be an origin story of sorts for Riri; however, whether or not this will be a traditional series with more seasons is yet to be seen, as Marvel Television is only marketing the show as a six-episode event.
Set after the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Marvel Television’s “Ironheart” pits technology against magic when Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne)—a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world—returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka “The Hood” (Anthony Ramos).
Created by the Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler, Ironheart will star Dominique Thorne, Anthony Ramos, Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, Manny Montana, Regan Aliyah, Anji White, and Matthew Elam. Ryan Coogler, in conversation with Marvel.com, talked about the possibilities and the themes that it is exploring, especially the clash between the fantastical and the logical:
"Riri is definitely in conversation with a street-level show like Daredevil. You’ve got characters trying — both heroes and villains — to make do with what they have. Then you combine that with cosmic Marvel, characters who would be at home in Doctor Strange or WandaVision. That [mix] of street-level Marvel and magical Marvel is a pretty crazy combination."
It will be exciting to witness the clash of science and magic in Ironheart with the magic-powered Iron Man suit.
