And Just Like That, first released on 9th December 2021, premiered its second and third seasons on 22nd June 2023 and 29th May 2025, respectively. It follows the three out of four women from Sex and the City as they navigate life, love, and friendship in their fifties.
The show is a sequel to the HBO series Sex and the City, which aired from 1998 to 2004. The series was followed by two films, Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010). And Just Like That picks up the story eleven years after the events of the second movie.
It shows us the transition of the protagonists from women in their thirties, enjoying life and worrying about finding love, to women in their fifties, still enjoying life, but having more perspective and even more realities to face.
About And Just Like That and its relation to Sex and the City
Sex and the City is based on Candace Bushnell's newspaper columns that she wrote from 1994 to 1996 for The New York Observer, and the anthology that shares its title with the show. Sex and the City follows a columnist, Carrie Bradshshaw, a lawyer, Miranda Hobbes, an art dealer, Charlotte York, and a public relations executive, Samantha Jones.
These four women, who are the best of friends, go through the ups and downs of finding love in the city of New York. While Sex and the City shows us these women worrying about finding the right man, being the right woman, and having the perfect relationship, And Just Like That focuses on problems women face later on in life.
In brief, the show follows Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they maneuver parenthood, loss, new friendships, and even new love. And Just Like That is created by Darren Star, who also created Sex and the City. The series has been developed by Michael Patrick King. This series, like its predecessor, is also based on Candace Bushnell's columns and anthology book, Sex and the City.
And Just Like That stars many characters from its predecessor show, but also brings in new characters. The main cast includes Sarah Jessica Parker reprising her role of Carrie Bradshshaw, Cynthia Nixon returning as Miranda Hobbes, and Kristin Davis returning as Charlotte York Goldenblatt.
Other returning cast members include Evan Handler as Harry Goldenblatt, David Eigenberg as Steve Brady, Willie Garson as Stanford Blatch, Chris Noth as John James Preston, John Corbett as Aidan Shaw, and Mario Cantone as Anthony Morentino. While the show centres on only Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, Kim Cattrall does return as a guest character in season two.
The new cast of And Just Like That includes Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, Chris Jackson as Herbert Wexley, Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley, Sara Ramirez as Chez Diaz, and Karen Pittman as Dr. Nya Wallace.

And Just Like That shows us where the protagonists and families are in their current lives, eleven years after Sex and the City (2010). One notable and even praiseworthy aspect of the show is that it does not adhere to the notion of a happy ever after.
It shows us that even if you find love in your thirties or forties, it might all fall apart a decade later. Or it might last. The show highlights that, irrespective of how it turns out, no relationship or experience is ever a loss.
The Sex and the City show, the two Sex and the City films, and And Just Like That are all streaming on Max.
