Is Criminal Minds: Evolution about to bring back a long-lost ally to end Voit’s reign? Here’s what we think

For three seasons, Criminal Minds: Evolution has been focused on Elias Voit, the federal prisoner who once operated in the shadows as the serial killer known as Sicarius. Now his crimes are public, he’s a household name, and the BAU is still working with him. That’s the situation heading into Season 19. While the show has teased new challenges and a wider fallout from Voit’s past actions, there’s one idea that could shake things up in a major way: the return of Agent Ashley Seaver.

Seaver, last seen in Season 6 of the original Criminal Minds, had a personal reason for joining the FBI, her father was a serial killer. Rossi brought her into the BAU because she offered insights no one else could. Her return now would not just tie back to Voit’s twisted psychology, it would mirror her own past. And that connection might be what finally brings this story full circle.

Why Ashley Seaver makes sense for Voit’s final chapter in Criminal Minds: Evolution

The timing makes sense. Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 is already in production, and with Elias Voit now a public figure and no longer hidden behind the Sicarius name, the show needs a fresh angle. According to showrunner Erica Messer, Voit will face an entirely different kind of scrutiny. He’s not a ghost anymore.

He’s a known killer with a spotlight on him, one that he doesn’t want but can’t avoid. That alone changes how the BAU deals with him, and it opens the door for someone new, someone who already knows what it’s like to live in the shadow of a killer. That’s exactly what Ashley Seaver brings to the table.

Seaver’s personal history makes her one of the only people in the Criminal Minds: Evolution world who might understand Voit’s mental state. Her father, Charles Beauchamp, murdered 25 women. She was just a child when it happened. She changed her last name and went on to join the FBI, which shows she doesn’t run from her past, she uses it. Agent Rossi, who helped arrest her father, brought her to the BAU in Season 6 for that very reason.

She wasn’t there long, just 10 episodes, but her impact stuck. She didn’t quit the FBI. She was reassigned to the Domestic Trafficking Task Force, a high-risk unit that works on deeply personal cases. So we know she’s still out there. And we know she’s capable of operating under pressure.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 has a built-in reason to bring her back. The BAU is still consulting Voit from inside prison, as confirmed by Aisha Tyler. That puts the team in dangerous territory. Voit is no longer just a criminal, they’re using him as a resource. Tyler called the relationship “symbiotic,” which suggests both sides are benefiting.

But that also means Voit is still influencing the team, even if indirectly. That dynamic won’t hold forever. And it makes perfect sense for the BAU to seek someone with deeper insight into how killers think, someone who has lived with that reality.

Voit’s situation is also drawing outside attention. With his crimes now public, there’s bound to be interest from the media, true crime producers, podcast hosts, and anyone looking to build a story around a notorious name. That creates risk not only for the team but also for Voit’s family.

If Seaver is brought in, it won’t just be as a profiler. She could be the one person who can recognize what media pressure, guilt, and exposure do to a person who’s trying to move on from a horrifying past. She lived that herself.

If the writers are serious about closing the Voit chapter, this is the cleanest way to do it. Seaver isn’t just a callback. She’s a mirror to Voit. And if Season 19 is about transitioning away from him, the show needs someone who can get inside his head without getting pulled into his chaos. Seaver can do that in Criminal Minds: Evolution. And that’s exactly why this return would matter.
