The Quebec television series Empathie was released on Crave on 10th April 2025 and ran for ten episodes until 5th June. As Deadline reports, Empathie has been renewed for a second season. The show is in French and follows Suzanne, who used to be a criminologist but is now a psychiatrist at the Institut psychiatrique Mont-Royal. There, she meets an interesting security officer, Mortimer, and many other patients with their own unique stories.

The show is yet to be released on Canal+, which is scheduled for 1st September 2025, but its performance on Crave has been enough for both Canal+ and Crave to renew it for a second season.

Empathie season two

Even before the show’s release on Canal+, it had been renewed for a second season. From the looks of it, the show’s performance on Crave was enough for both Canal+ and Crave to renew it for season two. Besides, the show has become a huge success for Crave in 2025 and also won the Audience Award at France’s Séries Mania. Given how much love and appreciation Empathie has received in a few months, it makes sense that both platforms want more of it.

The show has been created by Florence Longpré, who also stars as Suzanne. It is produced collaboratively by Bell Media and Trio Orange and directed by Guillaume Lonergan.

Empathie stars Florence Longpré as Suzanne Bien-Aimé, Thomas Ngijol as Mortimer Vaillant, and Adrien Bletton as Émilien Delcourt. It also features Malube Uhindu-Gingala as Adélaïde, Brigitte Lafleur as Carole Moisan, and Jean-François Nadeau as Charles Villeneuve. Other cast members include Benoît Brière as Jacques Dallaire, Josée Deschênes as Diane Tétrault, Sofia Blondin as Astryd Bien-Aimé, and Igor Ovadis as Anton Koskov, among others. Empathie has been produced by Julia Langlois, Carlos Soldevila, and Florence Longpré. Trio Orange handles the international distribution of the show in French-speaking territories, and distribution in other territories is handled by Beta Group.

There are multiple funds and other bodies that have been a part of the production. The show has been collaboratively produced by SODEC (Société de développement des entreprises culturelles) Film and Television Tax Credit, along with the Canada Media Fund and SODEC Québec. It has also received support from the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, the TELUS Fund, and the Quebecor Fund. Lastly, the Independent Production Fund for COGECO has also contributed to its production.

As Deadline reports, Bell Media’s Vice-President, Content Development, Programming and News, Suzane Landry, said in a statement about the show:

“Building on the phenomenal success of Empathie on Crave, we are proud to present this remarkable work to a new audience. Our partnership with Canal+ illustrates Bell Media’s focus on making great original series that resonate at home and abroad.”

Deadline also reported that Florence Longpré said in a statement about the show:

"Putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes, understanding them, and sharing their feelings is the greatest journey we can take from the couches in our living rooms,”
