Call the Midwife has become one of the longest-running British dramas, having aired 14 seasons since its inception in 2012. The period drama follows the lives and challenges of nurses and midwives in the neighborhood of Poplar.

When the series started, the narrative was set in the 1950s, which has now entered the 1970s. The 14th season of the show recently finished airing in the US on PBS and ended on a high note.

This has left the audience wondering if and when there will be a Call the Midwife Season 15. Audiences would be happy to know that the show has already been renewed for another season by the BBC, so it will definitely return soon.

Call the Midwife Season 15: Renewal status and potential release date

Call the Midwife Season 15 was confirmed by the BBC in February 2023. At the time, the show received a double season order for the 14th and 15th installments. Showrunner Heidi Thomas released a statement confirming the renewal and said:

“I’m overjoyed by the news that the doors of Nonnatus House will be open for a few more years. Call the Midwife is the pride and joy of all who work on it, but it's our fantastic, loyal audience that matters most.We are a family behind the scenes, on the screen, and in front of the telly, and I'm thrilled that we're all heading into the 1970s together.”

In the UK, all the previous seasons have debuted in January. Call the Midwife Season 15 is expected to follow the same trend and premiere on the BBC in January 2026. In the US, the show usually debuts two months later on PBS. Hence, the 15th season will likely be released on PBS in March 2026.

Meanwhile, like every year, there is a Christmas special in the works, which will be aired in December 2025. The two-part holiday event will take place in Poplar as well as Hong Kong.

Who will be in the cast of Call the Midwife Season 15?

The drama has seen several entries and exits over the years. More recently, Megan Cusack has announced her departure from the show after playing Nurse Ann "Nancy" Corrigan for four years. In an interview with Radio Times, the actress said she wants to pursue other projects in her career, and hence, is leaving the show:

“Sometimes, you've got to step out of your comfort zone to grow. I've learnt so much, but I'm at the start of my career and I need to take a leap of faith. It's bittersweet, really. I've made lifelong friendships there, and I get to take those with me.”

The rest of the main cast members are expected to return in the upcoming season, including Jenny Agutter as Julienne, Vanessa Redgrave as Jennifer Worth, Stephen McGann as Patrick Turner, Helen George as Trixie Aylward, Laura Main as Shelagh Turner, Linda Bassett as Phyllis Crane, Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan, Renee Bailey as Joyce Highland, and Rebecca Gethings as Veronica.

As for the storyline, the show will continue to explore the daily lives of the midwives and nurses. The new season will likely be set in 1971 and follow up on the previous season's finale, where Nancy gave birth to Melinda and Cyril and Rosalind had their first kiss.
