The Comeback is soon making a comeback on television with its third and final season. HBO announced the renewal of the sitcom recently, surprising everyone as the previous season had come out in 2014.
Lisa Kudrow is confirmed to return as Valerie Cherish in the new season, along with some of the original cast members. However, there was no word on whether Malin Åkerman will be reprising her role as Juna Millken.
The actress has now talked about whether she is open to appearing on the show again. In an interview with Us Weekly, Malin Åkerman revealed that she is eager to play Juna Millken in The Comeback Season 3 and is hoping that the creators will ask her to return.
Malin Akerman wants to return as Juna Milken in The Comeback Season 3
During the interview, Malin Akerman stated that ever since she got the news about The Comeback getting a Season 3, she has been texting lead actress and series co-creator Lisa Kudrow:
“That is what I’m hoping for [to return as Juna]. I’ve been texting with Lisa [Kudrow] since I found out the news was official.”
Akerman added that Kudrow is currently writing the script along with co-creator Michael Patrick King. While Kudrow has told her that the team would want her back for a couple of episodes, the final decision will be made once the script is ready:
“I know that Lisa and Michael Patrick King are deep in the writing process right now, so I am hoping. Lisa said, ‘We’d love for that to happen and for your character to come back for an episode or two.’ But we’ll just have to see where the stories go on the show.”
The actress also joked that if she does not get to reprise her role, she will just go to The Comeback Season 3’s set and cry. She added that her potential appearance in the show might be confirmed in the upcoming months:
“[For season 3], they have to follow the storyline. If it makes sense, then yes I would come back but if it doesn’t then I’ll just go to set and cry and just go for a visit. But I love that show so much.”
“So I was equally as excited that it came back. But I don’t have any more information than you do really, unfortunately. I’m dying and I’m chomping at the bit [for more information]. Hopefully in a couple months, I’ll know more.”
The series revolves around Valerie Cherish, a struggling actress who lands the role of Aunt Sassy in the sitcom Room and Bored and decides to portray her journey on a reality show called The Comeback. Malin Akerman joined the series in the first season as Juna Millken, a musician who gets cast in Room and Bored as Cassie, Sassy’s niece. She made recurring appearances in the second season.
Actors who are confirmed to return in the third season include Lisa Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, Laura Silverman as Jane Benson, Damian Young as Mark Berman, and Dan Bucatinsky as Billy Stanton.
The Comeback Season 3 is going to premiere on HBO in 2026.
