Brad Ingelsby is helming the creation of yet another gritty crime drama, Task, but this time featuring Mark Ruffalo. The Mare of Easttown creator has now given us yet another intriguing storyline to obsess over.
Task, set to release on September 7, 2025, features an FBI agent on a vicious journey to find the criminals. Unlike Brad Ingelsby’s previous work, Mare of Easttown, where the main character tried to solve a murder mystery, here the criminal is already identified, but catching him is the main struggle that the protagonist, Agent Tom, faces.
Many might think that Task could be a follow-up to Mare of Easttown; however, it is not. The storyline might have some hints of similarity, but Task is a completely different storyline.
Mark Ruffalo's upcoming crime drama Task
Right after the announcement of the release of the series, anticipation has been at an all-time high for not just fans of Mark Ruffalo but also for fans of Mare of Easttown.
The seven-episode Brad Ingelsby TV show of 2021, featuring the talented Kate Winslet, depicted the story of a murder case and the horrifying nature of the crime and the criminal. Each episode unfolds with a distinct layer of mystery. It not only showed Brad Ingelsby’s talent as a creator but also proved how meticulously the team worked to give such a thrilling crime drama.

Hence, when the announcement of yet another crime drama by Brad Ingelsby was released, fans wondered whether there would be any connection between Task and Mare of Easttown. Though it is not a follow-up but there is a similarity with the setting and tone of both series.
The storyline of Task follows FBI agent Tom, whose life takes an unexpected turn after he is assigned the case of armed robberies. On one hand, we have Agent Tom and on the we have Robbie, a seemingly simple garbage collector with secrets.
The story is undeniably character-driven. It can be understood that we will be getting the perspective of both Robbie and Tom. Tom also struggles in his personal life, which leads him to resort to alcohol. Robbie, on the other hand, is also suffering and trying to support his family despite the constraints.
It cannot be denied that we will be able to see the line between good and bad being blurred in the series. The consequences of the past actions of Tom and Robbie will have an impact on their respective lives. The trailer is quite promising as it depicts how Mark Ruffalo embodies Tom’s character completely. His performance is definitely the intriguing factor in the series.
Besides Mark Ruffalo, the other cast members of the series include Tom Pelphrey as Robbie. Tom Pelphrey is famed for his performance in Guiding Light, for which he received widespread recognition. Along with Tom Pelphrey, there are Emilia Jones as Maeve, Thuso Mbedu as Aleah, Raúl Castillo as Cliff, Jamie McShane as Perry, Sam Keeley as Jayson, and many more.
