Kevin Atwater’s character, played by LaRoyce Hawkins, was missing from Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 6 and this left fans worrying and speculating about the character’s potential exit from the show.
Hawkins has been associated with Chicago P.D. for all its 12 seasons and his character, Detective Kevin Atwater, works with the intelligence unit. Besides being the protector of the Windy City streets, he also takes care of his two siblings.
Besides Chicago P.D., other shows across the One Chicago universe have also featured Hawkins’ character, making him a veteran of this franchise. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that because of his absence in one recent episode, his character will be written off from the show.
Moreover, there has been no official update from NBC or the actor himself regarding his exit, so it is safe for the fans to not worry as Officer Atwater does not seem to be leaving his statutes anytime soon.

The latest episode of Chicago P.D., titled Pawns did not feature Detective Kevin Atwater. Instead, the episode focused mainly on Kim Burgess who received her much deserved and awaited promotion to the post of detective in the department.
It is also to be noted here that Kim’s character was previously absent in season 12 of Chicago P.D. but in the latest episode, she was the focus. However, what fans mainly noticed was Detective Kevin Atwater missing in action.
Given the show’s history of killing and writing off characters, it is natural for the fans to write about Detective Kevin Atwater’s future. For instance, the character of Hailey Upton, played by Tracy Spiridakos was written off in season 11 because the actor wanted to explore fresh opportunities.
Also, the character of Emily Martel, played by Victoria Cartagena, was apparently introduced in Chicago P.D. to replace the character of Upton, but unfortunately, she got killed during the initial episodes of this season. Such shocking character exits have naturally made fans worry about Kevin.
However, what is to be considered here is that Kevin’s character has been associated with the show literally from its beginning and it would be difficult to end his character abruptly.
Not only that will hamper the show’s popularity but such a decision might also give rise to logical errors in the storyline. Moreover, there has been no official announcement regarding this and Hawkins has only missed out on a few appearances in season 12, which means the character’s random exit is highly unlikely.
Moreover, Hawkins also joined the cast of Chicago Med in Season 10, Episode 2, which led to Atawater’s cameo in the series. This marked the character’s first appearance on Chicago Med.
Is there any update on LaRoyce Hawkins leaving Chicago P.D.?
As of now, there has been no word on Hawkins leaving Chicago P.D. While it is true that in the history of this long-running show, a lot of actors have left willingly to explore new opportunities or have been written out for different reasons, the same thing happening to Hawkins’ character seems quite unlikely given how the story is shaping up.
Moreover, he is only absent in a few instances, which might later be addressed by the show. Since he’s a part of the whole One Chicago franchise, he might appear in other shows under this umbrella, which will also explain his absence.
