NBC has finally renewed One Chicago franchise for new seasons in their 2025-26 renewals. The three shows under Dick Wolf's popular franchise, Chicago Med, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire will return with their respective new seasons for the current year.
Earlier, St. Denis Medical and Happy's Place received early renewals and now the network has finally announced the revival of their long-running procedurals. This confirms that Chicago Med Season 11, Chicago Fire Season 14, and Chicago P.D. Season 13 will return in the coming year with new episodes.
All three procedurals are currently airing their weekly episodes on Wednesdays on the network. 2025 was a great year for the franchise, as it featured the first mega crossover event since 2019.
More on One Chicago renewal in our story.
One Chicago franchise is renewed for new seasons
While this decision is not surprising, considering the One Chicago franchise's success and NBC ratings over the years, the confirmation is much-welcome news for the fans.
Since Chicago Fire's inception in 2012, its success has naturally paved the way for Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. The holy trinity has been a staple part of NBC's Chicago Wednesdays.
According to Deadline's reports, NBC has reported approximately 46 million viewers for One Chicago's current season. The numbers and viewers' ratings are also increasing each season, securing a positive future for the franchise.
While Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med will be back with their new seasons in the 2025-26 slate, fans should expect some changes in the number of episodes. All the episodes in One Chicago started with 22 episodes initially, but with the many budget cuts, the procedurals struggled to keep up the episode numbers.
While NBC has not yet confirmed the number of episodes for the upcoming seasons, the number is expected to be fewer. The prevailing budget cuts across Dick Wolf Entertainment will likely lead to this decision and all three shows will return with fewer episodes than the current season.
Due to the budget cuts, Chicago Fire earlier made a difficult decision and axed two important cast members from the show. Actors Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) will not return in the upcoming season.
While the Chicago franchise has seen multiple cast changes and exits throughout the years in all three shows, this was a conscious decision from the network. In addition, an alleged report by Deadline reveals that the cast members would also have to forgo their 5% annual raise due to budget restraints.
While the network has revived the popular franchise for the upcoming season, some changes in episode numbers and cast members are bound to happen. Still, One Chicago franchise has performed increasingly well for NBC since its inception.
With only three episodes left till the finale, Chicago Med Season 10, Chicago Fire Season 13, and Chicago P.D. Season 12 will air their respective season finales on NBC on May 21, 2025.
