Nautilus Season 2 has already become a question fans are asking about, and it hasn't even been long since Season 1 reached our screens. The show, built around Jules Verne's mysterious Captain Nemo, had a rocky start after getting dropped by Disney+. But it's found new life with other networks like Prime Video and AMC.

Now the big question that comes up is: can Nautilus make its way to another season? The short answer is: it's possible. But the road ahead for another season fully depends on viewership, response, and whether streaming platforms see the show as having long-term value attached to it.

A Nautilus Season 2 hangs on performance & not potential

Regardless of its cinematic look and gripping storyline, a Nautilus Season 2 hasn't been confirmed as of yet.

One of the biggest challenges is its scattered release. Originally made for Disney+, the show was quietly dropped before airing. Eventually, networks like AMC (US), Prime Video (UK and Ireland), and Stan (Australia) stepped in to give the show a shot. But this rollout could make it harder for one single platform to confidently greenlight a second season.

With that being said, Nautilus has slowly built momentum. Its U.S. release helped bring up its Rotten Tomatoes score to 78%, with audiences scoring it 71%. These numbers reflect an appreciation for the show's style and the performance of the cast involved.

Critics praised the show's visual effects and the way it tackled anti-imperialist themes. In an interview with Yahoo UK, Latif himself shared:

"There's something in the show for everyone... a family can watch it but then there's sci-fi, creature stuff, romantic drama... a lot of comedy in it [and] it's big spectacle."

That kind of broad appeal could help tip the scales in favor of a Nautilus Season 2 renewal.

If greenlit, the wait for Season 2 could be long

Even if Nautilus Season 2 gets the go-ahead, fans shouldn't expect a quick turnaround. The first season reportedly took nearly 11 months just for filming, and that doesn't even include writing and post-production. If Season 2 follows the same pace, the earliest viewers might see it could be sometime in mid to late 2026.

Plot-wise, there are several directions the show could take. Season 1 focused on a reimagined origin of Nemo, set against Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. The creators might take a look into The Mysterious Island, or build out new storylines with Nemo's quest and crew.

Either way, a team on a submarine exploring unknown places gives the writers an endless ocean of ideas.

The series also benefits from having a charismatic lead in Latif and a "monster-of-the-week" structure that allows for flexible storytelling. With AMC lacking a long list of current blockbuster hits, Nautilus could fill that gap if the numbers hold up.

Nautilus Season 2 hasn't been officially confirmed, but the thought of it being confirmed is not far off from the table. A strong viewership in the U.S., added with a versatile cast and story, makes the odds better than ever before.

If Nautilus Season 1 can keep building on its audience, there's every chance we'll be setting sail with Captain Nemo again for a Season 2.
