Since its premiere in 2013, Rick and Morty has maintained a solid fan base, and throughout its 8 seasons, there are certain characters like President Curtis, who have become fan favorites. The series decided to make Curtis a recurring character in season 3, and given the popularity he has enjoyed over the years, it seems natural that Andre Curtis is finally going to get a spin-off of his own.

The spin-off announcement came as a surprise during last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con. While details remain scarce, Adult Swim has released an official synopsis revealing that the series will follow:

“the Commander-in-Chief and his eccentric staff as they tackle the kind of crises that Rick Sanchez could never be bothered with — from interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena.”

Dan Harmon will be serving as one of the showrunners, and he will be joined by James Siciliano, who will serve both as a showrunner and an executive producer.

President Curtis might give a fresh spin to Rick and Morty

When Rick and Morty first premiered, it got great reviews from critics and viewers alike. However, over the years, the show started to struggle both in terms of storytelling and character development. Therefore, from that point of view, it seems like an excellent idea to explore a character like President Curtis, as the creators will be able to explore numerous angles regarding the storyline.

Voiced by Keith David, President Curtis’s character was an instant favorite since his introduction in Rick and Morty Season 2. He was funny, and the viewers loved him, which led to him becoming a recurring character in season 3. Now, with an entire show dedicated to him, it is only natural that the expectations are already high, given how his character has been portrayed in the original series.

While most of the details about the President Curtis series are under wraps, it is confirmed that Keith David will continue his role as the protagonist and will be joined by Jim Rash and Stephanie Beatriz. It is important to note here that Rash had a small role in Rick and Morty as well, where he portrayed the character of a marriage counsellor named Glaxo Slimslam.

It is not yet confirmed which actor will be playing which character, and besides the mentioned names, no more details about the cast have yet been revealed. Since the show is already confirmed, it can be expected that more details, like the episode count and a tentative release date, will follow in a while.

Rick and Morty can be streamed on Netflix.
