The Summer I Turned Pretty thrives on tangled romances, messy parties, and unexpected confessions. Season 3 episode 7 stirred that pot even more, leaving fans asking whether Redbird is actually Jeremiah's ex-boyfriend. The short answer is no, Redbird isn't Jeremiah's ex.

That role belongs to Blake, a new character who popped up during the chaotic pre-wedding parties. But Redbird's bond with Jeremiah still sparks curiosity, especially since both characters are openly queer.

Blake revealed as Jeremiah’s real ex in The Summer I Turned Pretty

For fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Blake's introduction in Season 3 came out of nowhere.

He hadn't shown up in earlier seasons. However, Jeremiah did once mention him in season 2 when talking about going to homecoming. In episode 7 of Season 3, when Anika casually asked who in the guy's group was single, Belly said it out loud and clearly:

"I think Ethan. Blake is Jere's ex, and Redbird's got dibs."

That single line shifted the whole conversation.

"Hold up, you're okay with Jere having his ex at his bachelor party?"

Anika's reaction captured exactly what many fans were thinking. Yet Belly barely flinched, probably because she was preoccupied with Conrad. Taylor quickly chimed in, pointing out that Belly didn't have "a leg to stand on" considering Belly and Connie's soul-tying relationship in the past.

What's important is that Blake isn't a throwback to Jenny Han's novels. He's a new add-on 1-second screentime character created specifically for Prime Video's adaptation. His on-screen time is really small, but his being added only reminds the fans that Jeremiah has a past beyond Belly.

Redbird’s connection to Jeremiah in The Summer I Turned Pretty is explained

So if Blake is Jeremiah's ex, where does that leave Redbird? Introduced in season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty as one of Jeremiah's "frat bros" from Finch, Redbird quickly stood out for being more than a one-note party guy.

Yes, he's loud, he's fun, and, importantly, he's also queer. In episode 2 of season 3, he opened up about his own breakup, telling Jeremiah:

"Oh, you don't think I know about breakups? I know about breakups. You saw me after Sean."

Jeremiah teased him, replying,

"You two were together for two seconds, Redbird."

Redbird, not missing a beat, responded;

"It felt like something to me."

That exchange made fans immediately wonder if Redbird and Jeremiah might be more than friends. Their easy banter, with Redbird's openness about his romantic past, blurred the lines between close friendship and potential romantic tension.

Still, the show never states that Redbird and Jeremiah have ever dated. In fact, Belly's poolside comment draws a clean line: Blake is Jeremiah's ex, and Redbird's just Jere's closest frat bros.

Yet, with The Summer I Turned Pretty known for playing with love triangles and complicated feelings, the choice to give Jeremiah such layered connections isn't random.

Redbird might not be an ex, but the chemistry between him and Jeremiah leaves the door wide open for fans to imagine what could happen after Belly makes her choice.

In The Summer I Turned Pretty, Redbird is not Jeremiah's ex-boyfriend, even though his closeness with Jeremiah suggests something more to their friendship. The real ex is Blake, introduced in season 3 episode 7 during the bach party chaos.

However, Redbird's character sure does add more dimension to Jeremiah's world, reminding fans that even outside the central love triangle, the show still knows how to stir conversation and keep us guessing about what comes next.
