Rick and Morty first aired on Adult Swim on December 2, 2013.

It is a strange, smart, and hilarious sci-fi cartoon about a grumpy genius grandpa and his nervous grandson. The show was created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. It follows Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith. They travel through portals. They break timelines. They meet different versions of themselves.

The show mixes dark comedy and strong emotions. Over the years, it became one of the most popular animated shows in the world. It has won many awards and has been renewed through Season 12.

For a long time, the show was easy to stream. In the United States, it airs on Adult Swim. It also streams on Max (formerly HBO Max) and Hulu. In many other countries, the full show is on Netflix.

Now, this setup is changing. In late 2025, fans started seeing “last day to watch” warnings. News reports said the show is leaving Netflix in several regions.

So if you usually watch Rick and Morty on Netflix, you may now be worried and confused. Is it really leaving? And where can you watch it now?

The short answer is yes. In many countries, Rick and Morty is leaving Netflix at the end of 2025. But it is not leaving everywhere. And it is not leaving streaming completely.

As per the report from ComicBook.com, Netflix will remove all seven seasons in the UK on December 31, 2025. Besides, the series will be unavailable on Netflix in Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, South Africa, South Korea, and Turkey on December 30, 2025. These places will not have the series available on Netflix anymore after the mentioned dates.

So, why is this happening? Netflix does not own Rick and Morty. The show belongs to Warner Bros. Discovery. It airs on Adult Swim in the United States. Netflix only rents the streaming rights for some countries. This deal lasts for a set number of years. When the contract ends, the owner can renew it or move the show.

Warner Bros. Discovery is now promoting its own service, Max. As a result, they are removing major titles such as Rick and Morty from the competitors’ platforms and making them exclusively available on their own service or with fewer partners.

That means it really depends on where you live. In the United States and Canada, Rick and Morty was never really a Netflix show. Seasons 1 to 7 are on Max and Hulu. Season 8 will join them after it finishes airing on Adult Swim.

In the UK, India, Australia, and many other places, Netflix has been the main home for the show. These regions often had six or seven seasons at the same time. From late December 2025, many of these Netflix regions will lose the show. Or they are losing Netflix’s rights to it. The rights are moving back to Warner’s own streaming system.

Thus, if you are situated in a location where Netflix is the only streaming service and you are watching it through that, then indeed Rick and Morty is leaving you. After the date of December 2025, Netflix will not allow you to play it.

The positive aspect is that the series is not cancelled. In fact, it is living the good life. In 2018, Adult Swim requested 70 more episodes to be produced. The show got another renewal up to Season 12 in 2024. Hence, the production of new episodes would last at least till 2029.

So Rick and Morty is not ending. It is simply moving to new streaming homes. Next comes the big question: Where can you watch it after it leaves Netflix?

How to Watch Rick and Morty after it leaves Netflix?

In North America and many other places, Rick and Morty mainly live on Warner’s own service and one long-time partner.

Max (formerly HBO Max): In the United States, Max has Rick and Morty. It is part of the Warner Bros. and Adult Swim library. Seasons 1 to 7 are already there. Season 8 will arrive after it finishes airing on Adult Swim.

Hulu: Hulu also has Seasons 1 to 7. It will also add Season 8 after it finishes airing. This matches Max’s schedule.

If you live in the US, the easiest choice is Max or Hulu. Both give you the whole show in one place. Some bundles include these services. You may already have access without knowing it.

In places where Netflix loses the show at the end of 2025, new homes are likely:

Max International: Max is expanding in Europe, Latin America, and parts of Asia. When Netflix deals end, Adult Swim shows often move to Max. So Rick and Morty will likely go there too.

Local TV partners: In some countries, the show airs on local TV channels. For example, in the UK, it airs on E4. Episodes may then appear on the channel’s catch-up app. They may also move to Max after a short delay.

First, check if Max is available in your country. If it is, Rick and Morty will almost surely move there. Warner prefers to keep its big shows on its own platform.

Next, check Hulu or Disney+ Star. In some countries, Hulu shows appear inside Disney+ under “Star.” This can include Adult Swim shows through special deals.

Also, watch for local announcements. Local TV channels that used to air the show often share where the new seasons will stream next.

If you are getting frustrated with the constant shifting of shows between the different apps, the best and most secure option is to buy Rick and Morty. You can purchase both single episodes and whole seasons on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV/iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu. Once you buy them, they stay in your library forever. It does not matter which service is streaming the show that year.

Can this change under the Netflix x Warner Bros. deal?

On December 5, 2025, Netflix announced a huge deal. They plan to buy Warner Bros.’ studios and streaming business. This includes HBO, HBO Max, movies, TV shows, and rights libraries. The deal is worth about US$82.7 billion total. The equity value is about US$72 billion.

If the deal goes through, Netflix would own Warner’s film and TV content. This includes shows made under Warner’s TV side. That includes Rick and Morty, since it comes from Adult Swim and Warner.

However, the deal is not final yet. It still needs government approval. Warner is also spinning off some old TV networks. These will become a new company called Discovery Global.

If everything is approved, Netflix would become extremely powerful. It could become the biggest home for many major movies and shows. If this happens, then Rick and Morty would technically be owned by Netflix.

Hence, this might bring Rick and Morty back, but it is not certain. Even if Netflix becomes the owner, that does not mean the show will return right away. Many things can still affect it. Just owning the show does not mean Netflix will add it back at once. They may choose a different plan for the content. They may delay it or place it in select regions only. Rebuilding the library takes time and planning.

In many countries, there are old contracts still active. These may be with local TV or streaming services. Netflix must wait for these deals to end or be changed. This can slow down the return of the show.

Netflix may change how it groups and promotes content. They may create a special adult animation section. They may keep some shows exclusive or bundle differently. This could affect where and how the show appears.

This deal is huge. It raises concerns about fair competition. Governments may place rules or limits on Netflix. They could require Netflix to share or license some content out.

Even if the deal is approved, it could take months or years to fully merge the libraries. International regions could take even longer to update.

The deal raises the chance of Rick and Morty coming back to Netflix. But it does not promise it. It also does not promise when it will return.
