It has been two years since The Resident was canceled, but the medical drama continues to find new audiences on streaming platforms. Following its conclusion, the show started streaming on Netflix in 2024.

The series tells the story of a group of young doctors at the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, who learn how to deal with everyday medical issues from a senior resident, Dr. Conrad Theodore Hawkins.

While viewers still like to hop onto the series, they may face some difficulty in streaming the show now as The Resident is leaving Netflix. The show will be removed from the platform’s library on September 4, 2025.

When is The Resident leaving Netflix?

The Resident will be dropped from Netflix’s catalog in the US on September 4, 2025. The streaming platform has already started highlighting that the last day to watch the show on their platform is September 3, 2025. All six seasons of the series will be removed from the streamer after that.

Meanwhile, Netflix will continue to stream the show in international territories for the time being, and the removal will take place on a later date, which has not been announced yet.

The reason behind the development is that the show is not a Netflix original. Since it was produced by 20th Television and aired on Fox, Disney owns the rights to the series. Netflix could only license it for a particular time, which seems to be 18 months. Other Disney shows that were licensed by Netflix were also removed after a similar period.

How to stream The Resident?

The Resident might be leaving Netflix, but it will still be available to stream on Hulu in the US. So if a Netflix subscriber wants to watch the show after September 4, 2025, they will have to subscribe to Hulu. All episodes of the program will continue to be streamed on the Disney-owned platform.

In international regions, the show can be watched on Disney+. To access Hulu, you can buy an ad-supported subscription plan, which costs $9.99 per month. On the other hand, the ad-free plan is priced at $18.99 per month.

The Resident originally aired on Fox between 2018 and 2023. In April 2023, the network announced its cancellation after six seasons, despite decent ratings. The official synopsis of the show reads:

“Dr. Conrad Hawkins s a fist-bumping, cocky, and beloved senior resident at Chastain Memorial. He knows the ropes, he knows the rules and how to break them… he knows just about everything. And to Dr. Devon Pravesh, one of the hospital’s baby-faced and optimistic new residents, it’s terrifying.”
“While other residents seem to be rolling with the punches, Devon feels like he’s been put in the ring for a fight he can’t win. Then there’s Dr. Randolph Bell, a community hero — and Devon’s idol — who seemingly can do no wrong. But that might be because there’s a bit of a medical malpractice cover-up going on…”

The show starred Matt Czuchry as Dr. Conrad Theodore Hawkins, Emily VanCamp as Nicolette 'Nic' Marie Nevin, Manish Dayal as Dr. Devon Pravesh, Bruce Greenwood as Randolph Bell, the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner as August Jeremiah "AJ / The Raptor" Austin, Jane Leeves as Elizabeth Katherine "Kit" Voss, and Shaunette Renée Wilson as Mina Okafor.
