The White Lotus is officially an Emmy favorite now with several nominations. This show is where satire meets secrets. Be it the luxury resorts or psychological warfare, The White Lotus is sure to pull you in right from the start.
Created by Mike White, the HBO show explores the emotional decay behind affluence. It explores privilege, power dynamics, identity, and even desperation. Every season has new vacationers who travel to exotic The White Lotus properties across the world and find themselves in unexpected situations.
We are introduced to a new hotel, a new ensemble, and, yes, at least one dead body every season. But beneath its murder mystery veneer, The White Lotus is about the tangled webs people spin while chasing pleasure or escaping pain.
The White Lotus Season 3 was set in Thailand. It left us with some really emotional moments as we witnessed some of our favorite characters of the season die.
With Tanya McQuoid's unforgettable arc now concluded, and newer characters entering the story, fans are itching to know what Season 4 will bring. Officially greenlit and confirmed to be set in a new The White Lotus property and a new locale, the season is already drawing quite a bit of speculation.
These speculations have only been fueled further after Lisa Kudrow's comments on joining the show and a recent meetup between creator Mike White and a familiar voice from Season 2. Let's know a bit more.
The White Lotus: Is the HBO show already dropping casting clues?
In an interview featured in Variety, Parker Posey, who plays Victoria Ratliff in the show, asked Lisa Kudrow if she'd enter the glossy world of the HBO show. Lisa's comments sparked rumors that she might, in fact, appear in Season 4. Here's what she had said:
"Work with Mike White? Yes. I love Mike White. I’ve hung out with him at a party."
However, when Posey said:
"Oh, Lisa, you should be in Season 4. If there’s a big enough TikTok campaign, then it’ll happen."
The Friends alum shared:
"And I might not be his cup of tea, which is allowed to happen too. But I do get nervous about inhabiting things that are too dark; I try to avoid that. But you didn’t really have to, except for the scenes where your head’s blown off. But it’s pretend."
So, it's unclear if she will actually join The White Lotus cast. But fans have been buzzing about it online.
Then again, there's a sighting that sent The White Lotus fandom into full sleuth mode. Mike White was recently seen chatting with Laura Dern at SunLife Organics in Brentwood, CA. This could be a casual meet-up. But with the HBO show creator already working on Season 4 and the fact that Laura Dern voiced Abby, the estranged wife of Dominic Di Grasso (Michael Imperioli) in Season 2, the speculation is stronger than ever.
Her cameo, though brief, felt too loaded and too perfectly cast to be a one-off. Why hire Laura Dern for a phone call unless there's more to come?
Fans are now speculating that Dern could step into a full-fledged role in Season 4. And it would make narrative sense. Last we saw Dominic, he was desperate to patch up his marriage. If Abby returns, it could mean the show is ready to explore their relationship.
Given her past collaborations with Mike White (Enlightened), this could be more than just wishful thinking. Besides, The White Lotus has always used returning characters to bring continuity through its otherwise anthological format.
We know that Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) won’t be making a comeback, unless as a ghost in someone's guilty conscience. Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) might return, especially since her storyline still feels open-ended.
On the other hand, characters like Aimee Lou Wood’s and Walton Goggins’ are unlikely to appear, as their fates were sealed in Season 3. Greg Hunt (Jon Gries), Tanya’s scheming husband, could possibly be back for karmic reckoning. And Michael Imperioli might return as well. Especially if Dern joins the cast as Abby, we might finally see the couple face off in a five-star suite.
