It is extremely easy to fall into a binge-watching streak with the latest hit Prime Video drama adapted from the E. Lockhart bestselling novel. The plot follows Candence Sinclair trying to piece together a tragedy that led to her brain injury and amnesia, causing her to forget the events of the past summer.

As the finale pieces together what actually happened on Beachwood in Summer 16, along with an unbelievable twist, fans are wondering if the show is a limited series and, if not, if it will be returning for another season. We Were Liars is not a limited series; however, at the time of writing, it is yet to be renewed for another season.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, E. Lockhart (writer, executive producer) revealed:

"I don’t have any news to share about season two yet. It’s not a limited series!"

Additionally, a twist at the end of the finale revealed Carrie speaking with the spirit of her son Johnny, which could be setting up the show for an adaptation of the prequel titled Family of Liars by Lockhart. Here's what Lockhart revealed about the ending:

"I wrote a prequel novel to We Were Liars, which is called Family of Liars. And that scene between Johnny and Carrie is very similar to the opening scene of Family of Liars. It is a tip of the hat to the story that I built in that second book."

Lockhart is also working on a third novel for the series titled We Fell Apart, which introduces a new set of characters but also reveals a lot of Sinclair family secrets.

"We Fell Apart is set in the world of We Were Liars, and it has a new cast of characters, but it also reveals a lot of Sinclair family secrets. So it intersects with We Were Liars throughout, and it happens the same time period as We Were Liars in another big, beachy, Gothic House across the water on Martha’s Vineyard."

If the show is renewed for another season, there is a lot of choice in source material for adaptation, making it a real possibility for the Prime Video drama.
