The Outlander series debuted in 2014, following the story of Claire Randall, a nurse from World War II, who finds herself in the 18th century through unexpected time travel from 1946. The protagonist enjoyed her second honeymoon with her husband, Frank, and unknowingly stepped on a stone that took her back in time, marking the beginning of a complex web.

At first, Claire struggles to find her way into the old times. Still, with difficulties aside, she persists in applying her expertise and medical knowledge to aid others. She then encounters a bold Highland warrior, Jamie Fraser, and eventually falls in love with him. However, her marriage with Frank in the 20th century often bothers her as Claire finds herself in a love triangle. She also gets involved in the political landscape of the time, as she knows what is going to happen and often tries to change it.

Outlander is currently in its seventh season, with Claire at its center. The series also features other central figures, such as William Ransom, the secret son of Geneva Dunsany and Jamie Fraser. With Season 7 ending soon, William's tale, especially after he is back at the British camp, and his reunion with Jane Pocock is taking center stage.

Actress, Silvia Presente's Jane has a complex relationship with William Ransom. Jane, who has endured years of hardship in a brothel has distrustful views about the world, and her first meeting with Willaim wasn't so good. She thinks of him as an arrogant and naive man but gradually understands William's vulnerability and honesty.

As seen in Outlander Season 7 Episode 14, William is surprised to see Jane and her little sister at the British camp. While she initially didn't expand much on her arrival, Jane did ask William for protection, and in return, she offered to be there for him intimately.

So, does that mean William is the only hope for Jane? Well, not necessarily her only hope, but Silvia Presente did describe him as a "flicker of hope" for Jane. During an interview with TVLine, the actress explained:

"His [William's] vulnerability and honesty, and just allowing her to have a night of uninterrupted sleep, flags something to her that she’s not seen in anyone before."

Presente added:

"It’s something she’s not used to, and I think it reminds her that there is still hope for mankind, as morbid as that is. [Laughs] I think he is the start of, potentially, a flicker of hope for Jane."

The actress explained that for Jane, William is someone who doesn't judge her. Additionally, the two are now aware of their vulnerabilities, and Jane's decision to seek his help stems from a genuine connection. So, William isn't the only hope, but someone who could offer her a chance to believe in something better.

Following the aftermath of Outlander Season 7 Episode 12, William has returned to the British camp, all worn out. In Episode 14 'Ye Dinna Get Used To It,' he receives a scolding from his superior officer for his messy uniform and the missing gorget which he traded for a night with Jane previously.

William is surprised to see Jane with his sister at the camp and Jane returns the gorget to him. When William asks what she wants, Jane replies:

"What we really want is your protection."

Jane doesn't want her sister Fanny to live in an environment she spent her life in, and asks Willaim to help them.

Jane also proposes a deal, but William sticks to his principles and offers Jane to be his laundress instead. However, Jane confesses knowing nothing about handling money, as whatever she made always went to the madam, and that she's never explored much outside of the brothel.

Later in the Outlander episode, Jane reveals the reason behind their escape is Captain Harkness, who has returned to the brothel to take Fanny's virginity. Aware of the Captain's violent nature, Jane killed him in self-defense.

Now, she fears the consequences of killing a British officer and wants Willaim to help her. William promises Jane to protect her and Fanny from the authorities, but little does he know that he is soon going to end up in a dangerous situation.
