Created by Rob McElhenney, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is a cult show that has been airing since 2005. Unconventional and subversive, the sitcom focuses on a group of narcissistic and sociopathic friends who run an Irish dive pbar in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While almost all of the gang has questionable morals and love to torture others, the character of Dennis takes the cake. Played by Glenn Howerton, Dennis is extremely sociopathic and narcissistic, and even spooks the others many times. Dennis is evil and funny and here are 5 times when he proved why he is the scariest member in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Dennis’ tactics on manipulating women, the strange tools in his car, and other times when he proved to be the scariest in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

In season 10, episode 3 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Reynolds go to a doctor to get pills for controlling Pete. Dee speaks out of turn as Blanche from A Streetcar Named Desire and embarrasses Dennis. Terrifyingly, Dennis gets angry and threatens to chop Dee into pieces and add her to his collection of skin-based suitcases. Worse, he even graphically describes the torture he would inflict upon her. Dee is stunned that Dennis has such a collection and Dennis is annoyed about Dee not putting in thought about the fact that someone has a suitcase made of skin. Dennis speaks about the smell of skin and the moment is unnerving as he has clearly done some research and has weird fantasies.

2. The Gang get to see Dennis’ soul in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Another instance that proves how scary Dennis is, happens in season 14, episode 3 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Dee gets to decide what the gang will do and she tells Dennis to remove his makeup. While he says that he does not wear any, he eventually takes it off and looks absolutely terrifying. Even the gang is stunned and their plan to make Dennis seduce a councilwoman no longer works as Dennis looks horrible. Shockingly, Dennis turns out to have bald spots, has a hunch, and is soft-spoken. Therefore proving, that he creates a persona for others.

3. The mystery about Dennis and his ex-wife

In season 12, episode 5 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the show explores the death of Maureen Ponderosa, who was Dennis’ cat-obsessed, eccentric ex-wife, who also got alimony. She was using that money to look more feline. Dennis is interviewed throughout the episode and he does not seem to give any strong defense for himself. He finally states that she fell off a building while he was standing there. The Gang therefore believes that he is the one who pushed her. Even a detective questions Dennis and he leaves Dennis alone for a while. During that time, he looks at the camera and has a scary look. He does not blink and the detective is spooked.

4. Dennis demonstrates the manipulative tactics that one should use on women

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is about a bunch of people who are narcissistic and manipulative. And no one symbolizes these traits more than Dennis. In season 5, episode 10 of the series, Dennis creates an entire system that makes sure that women are emotionally manipulated and fall for men. His system is known as the D.E.N.N.I.S. system and he gives the gang a lecture on it. Each letter stands for a step and the plan also includes points on how to torture a person and ultimately leave them. He mentions that dates don’t matter to him but he wants to do things like slashing tires so that women want him for security.

5. The strange tools in Dennis’ car

In season 7, episode 12 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dennis suffers humiliation at a high school reunion as it is revealed that he was not a part of the cool kids and that Mac slept with his prom date. This leads to Dennis turning into a monster and he snaps. Dennis rushes to his car and yells that everyone will pay the price. He searches for tools and pulls out a duct tape and a hammer. Charlie asks him why does he have all this in his car and Dennis says that they are for his kinks. However, the fact that Dennis takes these out upon getting humiliated, proves that he can go to any extent.
