It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 Episode 5 shook things up a bit, taking fans away from Paddy’s Pub and onto a dog track.

The episode begins with Frank rekindling his friendship with an old acquaintance from West Virginia. Unsurprisingly, his old pal is as shady and scheming as Frank and claims to have insider knowledge about betting, luring Frank into a round. This chance encounter and the opportunity to make money reignite Frank’s street smarts and instill him with reckless overconfidence.

Frank gambles his fortune away, claiming to know insider tricks and under-the-table deals. However, soon enough, the odds stop favoring him, and as he continues to lose, he eventually has a public meltdown, delivering a comical gag.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 Episode 5 recap: The trash twins strike again

Dennis and Dee’s partnership at the dog track was certainly the biggest highlight of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 Episode 5. The trash twins didn’t just show up at the tracks to gambleβ€”they arrived in style. Both Dennis and Dee dressed in flamboyant costumes, brimming with confidence like their father, and tried to blend into the high-society affair.

However, their social facade begins to fade when they start losing bets. As losses pile up, their true personas begin to emerge. While Dennis blames his sister for jinxing the bet, Dee claims she still has a system to win back their lost money. Their bickering was a hilarious mix of absurd and toxic, and their betting antics only end when they run out of money and suffer public humiliation at the event.

While the rest of the gang were gambling away their fortunes, Mac and Charlie had a quieter adventure in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 Episode 5.

The duo gets distracted by a local group of volunteers who have set up a food stall and are caring for greyhounds. They spend time mingling with the volunteers and chatting with people from all walks of life. While Mac and Charlie bask in the peace of simple living, they’re soon called back by the rest of the gang to bail them out of their respective messes.

Episode 6 will air on FXX on August 6, 2025.
