The airing of the 200th episode of Chicago Med Season 11 gave us one surprise after another. Torrey DeVitto is back, and this time her story is filled with many complications. In a recent interview, Torrey DeVitto admitted that returning for the eleventh season after her departure in the eighth season is “like going back home for a visit”.

Her words definitely make us eager to know what the storyline we are going to get and whether her character’s relationship with Dr. Will Halstead will be further complicated. In the eighth season, we see that Natalie Manning and Will Halstead are together, and Will is trying his best to become a good father to Owen. To get closer to Owen, Will takes him on a boys’ trip so that they can have a special bonding time.

In Chicago Med Season 11, we see that Owen is shot. Hence, both Manning and Halstead will have to navigate this difficult situation. Manning is also pregnant. Hence, these complications might also have an adverse effect on the child. The creators of Chicago Med truly know how to keep the viewers on their toes.

Torrey DeVitto points out that she “would expect no less” complications than the ones that her character is going through after returning. Though many might have expected Natalie Manning to at least have a little happy time before she gets drawn back into the complications, the creators of Chicago Med definitely had some other ideas about the whole situation.

In the series, Natalie’s character is always going through ”some trauma or emotion”. She always has “something happening” to her. It not only makes her a strong character but also makes her a fan favorite. To see her navigate through these difficult situations without shattering gives us hope and depicts her resilience.

Will and Natalie’s relationship, often pointed out as “Manstead”, will have some serious troubles in this season, as pointed out by the showrunner Allen MacDonald. He admitted that there will be “emotionally harrowing” moments, and the significance of it all comes from Natalie’s storyline from Season 1. In Season 1, Natalie gave birth to Owen.

Now in Chicago Med Season 11, after returning for the 200th episode, she is also pregnant. However, her firstborn, Owen, is facing a life-threatening situation. Her story comes full circle. This makes her storyline even more intriguing.

Torrey DeVitto also admitted that she is aware of how attached the fans are to Natalie and Halstead’s story. Though in the eighth season, they were together, their story did not seem to get the ending that they deserved, as many fans pointed out. Hence, she is “doing it all for them” and enjoying it equally.
