Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered on July 17, 2025, and this season's cast remains one of the strongest points of the show. Key cast members of the show include Celia Rose Gooding, Babs Olusanmokun, and Melissa Navia, who play the roles of Nyota Uhura, Joseph M'Benga, and Erica Ortegas, respectively.

It has already been established that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 will explore these favorite characters in a different light and angle, which means fans will get to see these characters in a different direction. Talking about the same, Celia Rose Gooding told CBR,

“It's a lot of fun. Melissa says it best, but I think the best part of our show is the ensemble nature of it and how our chemistry moves as a group, not just in duos or trios. When we really work together to show off that chemistry, it's just one of the things that makes our show really fun to watch. I'm excited for fans to see more unexpected pairings.”

As is clear from her words, this new season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will delve into territories that have not been explored before, giving the whole viewing experience a new layer of excitement.

While the character of Nyota Uhura in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, played by Celia Rose Gooding, is the ship's communications officer, the third season gives her a lot more to do, ranging from going on adventures to helping Scotty’s character. Talking about how she felt regarding her expanding character arc, Gooding told CBR,

“It's been so fun! I love being able to show different sides of this character that fans already know and love quite well. To be able to interact with my other cast mates – the pairings are something that you wouldn't necessarily guess the first time around. You would see Uhura working with the bridge crew, but we actually see her working with folks outside that crew for the first time in Season 3.”

Babs Olusanmokun shared a similar thought as he said,

“It's been fantastic! It's been a beautiful journey and it's ongoing. I'm very grateful for it.”

Erica Ortegas, played by Melissa Navia, also undergoes some significant transitions as she navigates an ordeal in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3, an experience that profoundly shapes her character. Talking about the development of her character, Melissa told CBR,

“It's been wonderful because, on this show (and all of Star Trek, really) you have one character but, through that character, you're able to play multiple roles. Even though we've only aired two seasons, the writers have done a fantastic job of giving us so many different sides and literally different characters to play.”

She further added,

“One of my absolute favorite all-time characters ever was Sir Adya in Season 1, where I got to sword-fight in space. Seeing what the arc was going to be [for Season 3], you're going to see a side to her that we haven't seen yet.”

She also said,

“As an actor, that's a joy to be able to play, but you also get to interrogate the character that you're playing a bit. I've been hearing a lot about people in Star Trek talking about the character that they get to play. I heard Leonard Nimoy saying that Spock was his best friend. And Ortegas is my best friend.”

As the actors are excited about the developments their characters will undergo this season, fans can expect an enthralling viewing experience, as both the characters and the story are set to become more intense.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds can be streamed on Paramount+.
