The ending of Pluribus sets the stage for some intense development that Carol will not have to come across after finding the truth about the Others. In the last episode of the series, Carol understands that Zosia’s feelings towards her are not genuine.
Throughout the series, Carol was unable to understand which side to choose, eventually leaning towards the Others, thinking they are not so bad after all. However, at the end of the series, Zosia’s words about Carol and Manousos snap her back to the reality that she has been dreading. Rhea Seehorn, in an interview with TVLine, reacts to Carol’s emotions at the end of the first season.
Rhea Seehorn’s reaction to Carol’s heartbreak in Pluribus Season 1 finale
Pluribus Season 1 finale definitely brought forth a heartbreaking revelation for Carol. Through the time she spent with Zosia, her emotions towards her began to change. The initial hatred she had towards the Others began to melt away. However, at the very end of the series, Zosia’s words about her equal love for Manousos and Carol help Carol realize that Zosia truly did not love her.
All Zosia wanted was to find out a way to infect Carol, as the only motive of the Others is to spread the virus. Initially, Carol’s inability to get infected was because the only way she could get infected was through the extraction of DNA from her bone marrow. As this process required Carol’s permission, without which the Others will not be able to go through the process. Now, however, Zosia tells Carol that there is another way through which she can become just like Zosia. This process would be through the frozen eggs.
Rhea Seehorn indicates that “it’s a lot. All of it.” as she dives into the emotions that Carol went through after finding out the truth about Zosia. Pluribus creator Vince Gilligan also adds that this heartbreak is “a helpful kind of heartbreak”; this is because this revelation “clears her head.”

It cannot be denied that Carol definitely understood which side to pick after Zosia’s truth came to light. Initially, she thought that the others were not that bad because of her feelings for Zosia; however, now she understands Manousos’ way is the only right path.
After Zosia’s words, Carol’s “intellectual side” finally realizes that it is impossible to "chemically love two things exactly the same”. The lack of uniqueness that Carol feels through Zosia’s words eventually helps her realize the true nature of the Others. The ending of Pluribus truly captures the dark side of this in a nuanced manner.
The Others are now aware of a way to get Carol infected. So, she needs to put her mind to finding a way out of the situation if she does not want to end up just like them. Manousos is also trying his best to find ways to get out of the situation. His ability to understand about the radio frequency definitely sets the stage for some intense action that could happen in the upcoming seasons of the series.
Though Season 2 of Pluribus is already confirmed, viewers will have to wait for some time before the new season drops. However, with the storyline with which the first season ends, the wait for the next season will definitely be worthwhile.
