“It’s a whole new deal”: Landman Season 2 star Sam Elliot reveals whether Taylor Sheridan’s exit from Paramount will impact the show

Sam Elliott, who plays T.L. in Landman on Paramount+, came right out and said that Taylor Sheridan’s leaving Paramount isn’t going to affect the show.

For context, Sheridan, the guy who created Landman and Yellowstone, is heading off to NBCUniversal by 2029. But Elliott is not worried. He told fans not to stress because Landman is still in Paramount’s hands, nothing is getting pulled away just because Sheridan is packing up.

“It’s a whole new deal,” Elliott said about Sheridan jumping ship, but he made it clear: all the stuff Sheridan set up at Paramount is staying put, business as usual. So Landman isn’t going anywhere.

This shift for Sheridan comes after a long run at Paramount. He is now signing on with NBCUniversal for five years, but that won’t kick in until his Paramount gig wraps up at the tail end of 2028. While this is a big move, with things looking like they are also about to change, people in the know say all the Paramount shows, including Landman, should keep chugging along for now.

So, even though he is packing his bags for a new home, it doesn’t look like his old shows are going anywhere anytime soon.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Elliot said:

“It’s not gonna impact the future of this series because everything that Taylor had at Paramount is gonna stay at Paramount. It’s not like he’s taking it there. The Universal thing, as I understand, it’s a whole new deal, so it’s just great for Taylor’s world. I think it’s fantastic.”

Bob Thornton, who plays Tommy Norris in Landman, also told THR:

“I think the shows that are at Paramount stay at Paramount, so I don’t think those are affected. His deal is for the future. And who knows what that holds. Taylor is a brilliant guy, and I’m sure wherever he goes, whatever he does is gonna be successful, at least I know it’ll be real.”

Taylor Sheridan’s exit from Paramount was reported in October 2025. The New York Times and Deadline spilled all the details: Sheridan has got himself a fat five-year contract with NBCUniversal, kicking off in January 2029 when his old Paramount gig finally wraps.

But he is not just packing his bags alone. His producing partner and 101 Studios are also shifting to NBCUniversal.

Meanwhile, the industry is buzzing about why Sheridan switched. Word is, Paramount’s top brass shuffle didn’t help matters, but they didn’t just slam the door. There is actually a plan: He finishes his Paramount gigs with no loose ends, and then starts fresh over at NBCU.

So, whatever he is doing right now at Paramount isn’t getting pulled off the table. This marks a relief for Landman fans since the developments suggest the show will continue at Paramount for the next few seasons.

What is Landman about?

Landman premiered on Paramount+ in November 2024. If you have not watched the show yet, imagine dust, oil rigs, and enough Texas swagger. Billy Bob Thornton shows up as Tommy Norris as a slick, rough-around-the-edges landman for a scrappy oil outfit called M-Tex.

He is always hustling, caught in this tangle of backroom deals, family messes, and West Texas politics that are somehow wilder than the landscape itself. All this unfolds with oil money flying around and egos even bigger than the sky out there.

Showmakers actually pulled inspiration from the Boomtown podcast (2019 Texas Monthly podcast), so it has a real-deal vibe. It is a neo-Western with a mean streak biting into the political and money-grabbing chaos that comes with oil country.

Landman is kind of a wild card in Taylor Sheridan’s usual lineup. Forget dusty cowboys and old-school Western vibes, here we are in the chaos of today’s oil biz. Tommy is juggling about ten crises at once, from family blowups to shady corporate power plays. Sam Elliott shows up in Landman Season 2 as Tommy’s father, so things are expected to get even spicier when it drops on November 16, 2025.

Notably, Landman Season 2 will have 10 episodes in total. Episodes will be released one per week, and that will stretch out till mid-January 2026.

After the ending last season, Tommy became in charge of M-Tex Oil because Monty (Jon Hamm) died, and the story picks up right there. Tommy is juggling chainsaws: he has an insane drilling deal that could either make them filthy rich or totally wipe out the company. Meanwhile, there is a drug cartel sniffing around, trying to muscle in on the oil game through him.

Demi Moore’s character, Cami Miller, is stepping up in a big way, too. Her husband is gone, so she is taking the reins, and she is not here to play nice. She is gunning for power and making some serious moves.

Sheridan is reportedly sticking around to write Season 3 before he shifts to NBCUniversal in 2029. However, there is no official word on the next season yet.
