X-Men ‘97 Season 2 might feature Polaris, the green-haired mutant who, like Magneto, possesses magnetic powers.

For the uninitiated, Polaris, like Quicksilver and Magneto, is a child of Magneto, but born out of his affair with another woman. While the Maximoff twins, i.e., Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch, are known for being the Master of Magnetism's children, not many recall Polaris/Lorna Dane as a child of Magneto.

Now, after making two cameo appearances in the first season, Lorna is believed to make her debut in X-Men ‘97 Season 2. Last month, season 1 showrunner Beau DeMayo confirmed that horror icon Neve Campbell, known for her role in the Scream movies, will be voicing the mutant. He confirmed this after rumors swarmed the internet that Campbell was playing the character in an MCU movie.

In May 2025, rumors circulated on the internet that Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise, was cast to play Polaris in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, on May 13, 2025, Beau DeMayo clarified this rumor and went on to confirm that Campbell is playing Lorna Dane in X-Men ‘97 Season 2 through an X (formerly Twitter) post.

In the show's timeline, Polaris last had a speaking role in the third season of the original X-Men: The Animated Series, which aired in February 1995. Now, the character will return approximately 31 years after she was last seen in X-Men ‘97 Season 2, which Marvel is expected to release sometime in 2026, as confirmed by Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum. Currently, we don't have a release window for the series yet.

What do we know about X-Men ‘97 Season 2?

As of now, not much is known about the second season, except for the fact that time travel will play a role in the upcoming season. This was set up in the closing minutes of the season 1 finale. It also seems that characters like En Sabah Nur, Rachael Summers are playing a role in season 2.

In February 2025, Collider's Steve Weintraub asked the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel, Brad Winderbaum, when fans can expect to catch X-Men ‘97 Season 2. Winderbaum responded:

"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now. It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, Steve, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. So, the fact that we get to play in that universe with those actors is honestly why I went into this business in the first place."

He was not the only one who confirmed a 2026 release date for season 2. Lenore Zann, who has been voicing Rogue since the original 90s animated series, and even a politician in Canada, revealed a 2026 release date after confirming that voice recording is done for the second season at an Indiana Comic Convention panel in March 2025.

On the panel, Zann praised the new writing team, saying:

"I met Matt Chauncy, who's our new head writer and showrunner, and I've met a lot of the writers, well, all of them, actually. It's great. And it's interesting because I wrote a memoir called A Rogue's Tale, which just came out in the fall, and he contacted me and said, 'I'd really like to give your book to each of the writers.' So he gave it as Christmas presents to the writers. It was really sweet."

Thus, it seems that Marvel is confident about the next season despite all the behind-the-scenes drama involving season 1 showrunner Beau DeMayo.
