IT: Welcome to Derry has been building suspense and tension since its premiere. The HBO Max show takes viewers back to 60s in the cursed city of Derry, Maine. Viewers waited patiently for Pennywise to make his anticipated entrance. That moment finally came in the fifth episode. But the series did something unpredictable. It also introduced a weapon that can actually stop the dangerous clown.

This changes everything viewers know about combating the creature. The show has been revealing secrets about the entity's past through vigilant storytelling. Now, audiences understand the real way to defeat Pennywise. The origin of the weapon dates back to an ancient source connected to the land's original inhabitants.

The origin of Pennywise is explained in IT: Welcome to Derry

IT: Welcome to Derry took time to reveal the backstory of the creature. The fourth episode dove into the history through a character called Taniel. Dick Hallorann used his powers to access Taniel's childhood memories.

The Indigenous people who lived on this land for years knew the reality. The creature is actually an alien that landed on Earth inside a falling star. When the star shattered, the entity inside was released and began feeding on humans, especially children.

The Shokopiwah tribe discovered something important. They found pieces of the broken star scattered across the forest and crafted weapons from its fragments. The most crucial was a dagger that could harm what they named Galloo. The alien made its center in the Western Wood. The tribe learned to avoid that area and stayed protected in their own territory.

Things started shifting when settlers arrived and dismissed the warnings about the Western Wood. Many colonists died because of their ignorance. The entity killed a lady from the tribe called Sesqui.

Her young daughter, Necari, decided to take over the situation. She made more weapons from the star pieces and buried a few shards in the ground around the forest.

The dangerous entity could not cross this barrier. The descendants of the tribe have been looking after those pillars ever since. Hallorann's vision revealed that these pillars are located in tunnels under the Neibolt home.

The dagger protects Lilly

The fifth episode brought everything together. IT: Welcome to Derry showed both local kids and military forces are going through the sewers. The kids were following someone they thought was their friend, Matty. But Matty was actually the creature in disguise.

It changed into Pennywise and attacked the kids. Most of them escaped with support from Leroy Hanlon. Lilly Bainbridge was not so lucky and got separated from the clan.

Pennywise cornered her at the dead end of the sewer. The clown mocked her about her dead friend and showed her visions of her dead father. Then it opened its mouth wide to reveal rows of sharp, attacking teeth.

As he approached, something stopped him. The star dagger was lying in the water at Lilly's feet. Taniel accidentally dropped it there earlier. The creature could not cross and attack her further. He left, and she grabbed the dagger.

Why Lilly is the chosen one

IT: Welcome to Derry gave the weapon to the right character. Lilly encountered several traumas. Her father died in an accident, and she feels responsible for the same. She dealt with other issues, like being hospitalized for mental health issues. Despite all this pain, she keeps going. Her suffering has made her very resilient, and she knows fear closely. This makes her capable of confronting Pennywise directly.

The dagger represents hope for the children of Derry, and previous versions of the story depicted different ways to harm the creature.

IT: Welcome to Derry, has chosen a different path. The star weapon connects the present fight to tribal history. It displays that the entity has always had a weakness. The Indigenous people were discovered centuries ago, and now their knowledge can finally be used to safeguard innocent lives.

IT: Welcome to Derry; it still has more stories to tell. Dick Hallorann and his supernatural powers will play a significant role. Pennywise just revealed his face and already faces a serious threat. The children of Derry now have a real chance to attack the creature.
