Pennywise strikes again in Derry, Maine, as the official teaser for It: Welcome to Derry teases his return to the town. It's a prequel series from HBO Max, set in the 1960s, which will show the horrors of this creepy killer clown from Stephen King's stories. The character previously appeared in Andy Muschietti's 2017 film It and the 2019 sequel It Chapter Two.

Bill Skarsgård is all set to return to play the part of this terrifying clown, lurking in the shadows of a seemingly quiet town. Besides starring, the Swedish actor is also executive producing this horror show, with Andy Muschietti being the showrunner and one of the directors. Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs join him in adapting the Stephen King story to the small screen.

The show may not be your usual horror genre affair, according to what Muschietti revealed about his intentions behind adapting this story. In a 2024 interview with EW, he said that he will focus on the themes of friendship in the face of evil and the unified belief. He spoke further about its 1962-set period storyline, which takes place nearly 27 years before the events from his two movies:

"But this story focuses also on the use of fear as a weapon, which is one of the things that is also relevant to our times. — Twenty-seven years is the dormant period of Pennywise. It’s a different part of American history with a new set of fears for children, as well as adults, having in mind the cost of the Cold War."

The newly released teaser does not reveal all the details about It: Welcome to Derry, but it's enough to understand the depth of the situation and the horrors that await the townsfolk in Derry.

The two-minute clip begins with a young kid walking down a road in freezing chill. He notices a car driving past and asks for a lift. The family is kind enough to offer him a ride instead of letting him catch a cold. They ask him where his home is so they can take him back to his family. However, he seemingly refuses to return, saying he would want to be:

"Anywhere, but [in] Derry."

That only gives a brief idea of the terrifying things that people in Maine are about to encounter. The It: Welcome to Derry trailer further shows a married couple (played by Taylour Paige and Jovan Adepo) moving into the town with their son, but the townsfolk seem hostile toward them. It hints at a potential racial prejudice in the town.

Later, the teaser shows a group of kids trying to learn about some missing kids. It also concerns Paige's character, who is not sure if she can trust the town with her young son's safety. The next moment, a woman advises her, saying:

"[It's] never a bad idea to keep the people you love close."

The kids keep seeing signs of an unnerving presence, but the adults silence them in one way or another. In the final moments, the It: Welcome to Derry trailer briefly shows Pennywise in a dark tunnel.

According to Deadline, IT: Welcome to Derry will premiere on October 26 on HBO Max.
