HBO's latest supernatural horror television series, It: Welcome to Derry, is gritty, thrilling, and a must-watch.

As the name suggests, it follows Stephen King's novel It and is a prequel to the 2017 and 2019 movies of the franchise. In short, it delves into the events of 1962 and shows the scary past of Derry. In a candid chat with Variety, the young cast of It: Welcome to Derry shared some of their experiences from the set.

Matilda Lawler, who plays Marge Truman, called it a bizarre experience as she reveals,

"I would say it is scary on set, even though sometimes it feels a little bit ridiculous because you don’t actually have anything to react to. It’s a bizarre experience, but our acting coach, Mr. Ben, did a really good job of helping us try to create a sense of fear, even when it wasn’t in front of our eyes.

Lawler further added that their acting coach, Mr. Ben, used sounds and images to help them feel the eeriness of the scenes. While Arian S. Cartaya, who plays Rich Santos, revealed that even though the experience has helped him with his fears, he will still think twice before delving into the horror genre again.

Blake Cameron James, on the other hand, highlighted that his filming experience has sparked his interest in the horror genre. He added that he was fascinated to see what goes beyond the screen. He says,

"You get to see it from a different light once you’ve been on the set. So you’re like, “Oh, that’s a prosthetic. Oh, that’s fake.”

Clara Stack further explained how there were several intense scenes, but they were fun to shoot.

"There were definitely some intense, horrific scenes, but I also think it’s really cool to see the contrast of when we’re filming it versus when it’s on screen, with all the CGI and all the effects added."

For Amanda Christine, it was music that helped her get into her character.
