R&R is the new comedy series Jaime Pressly's production company, Liston James Productions, has set its eyes on. The series narrates the story of a chaotic brother-sister duo, Rachel and Robbie, as they navigate their lives and challenges.

Rachel will be played by JJ Herz, who is also the creator and producer of the series, and Kevin Iannucci will play her twin brother Robbie, who also has Down Syndrome. Pressly will appear as their mother, Roda.

The development of R&R began in March after Herz premiered a 10-minute proof-of-concept pilot at SXSW. As the pilot is ready for a screening at the Nashville Film Festival on September 20, 2025, Pressly's Liston James is looking for independent financing for the comedy show. Furthermore, as per Herz, they will also begin looking to hire writers from the queer/disabled community for the show, which will make it more authentic.

More on this in our story.

R&R: Jaime Pressly's Liston James developing the new comedy series

The comedy series, R&R, will narrate the story of the lives of Rachel and Robbie. As per the trailer, it will focus on the turbulent life the duo live while trying to do minimal jobs, and later launching their own podcast.

While Pressly's company arranges financing for R&R Season 1 and rounds up a team of writers, the pilot of the series has already garnered attention by winning the best pilot in the Baton Rouge Underground Film Festival and also winning the Inclusive Creator Award at SeriesFest 2025.

Herz told Deadline that the series is actually inspired by their own relationship with their brother, who has Down Syndrome. They shared that TV shows with characters who have Down Syndrome are rarely seen on screen, and it has been more than 30 years since we have seen one. The last time a TV show depicted a character with Down Syndrome was in ABC's Life Goes On, where Chris Burke's character, Corky Thatcher, had Down Syndrome.

They also shared that when characters do appear with the Syndrome, they are often the supporting characters, never the lead. However, their brother, Griffin, is more of a lead character than a supporting one, and Robbie is based on him. She stated:

"When characters with disabilities do appear on screens, they’re side characters. I’d never seen a leading character that was anything like Griffin, who was strong and witty and independent, lived on his own, wants to date, wants to live a full adult life.

She continued:

"If you’ve ever met Griffin, you’d realize that he is absolutely a lead character. So I’m just showcasing it on screen."

Herz also shared that they want to create a show that reflects their everyday life and is relatable to everyone. She quipped:

"What is important to me is that the cast and the crew of R&R reflects my everyday world, and that means disabled actors, disabled crew, disabled comedy writers in the writers room."

Herz, along with Jaime Pressly, Alex Herz, and Kelly Brown, is executive producing R&R, with Deadline reporting that Herz might also direct the full-length pilot episode of the comedy series.
