The Choir is a new Apple TV+ comedy-drama created by Gavin & Stacey co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones. The eight-part series stars Corden and Jones as estranged siblings, Ben and Lisa, who are forced to reconnect after years apart. Ben, having lived abroad, returns to their quiet English hometown following an unexpected family crisis.

The story follows their complicated reunion, unresolved tensions, and the quirks of small-town life. Filming begins next year, with Corden and Jones also serving as executive producers. The Choir marks their first major collaboration since the hugely popular Gavin & Stacey finale aired in 2024.

Corden expanded his career internationally by hosting The Late Late Show and by developing the Carpool Karaoke series for Apple TV+. Jones has distinguished herself through roles in Stella and other acclaimed British television shows, earning awards for her performances.

More about James Corden and Ruth Jones developing The Choir

The Choir is an upcoming Apple TV+ scripted comedy-drama conceived, written, and executive-produced by and starring James Corden and Ruth Jones. The series is set to span eight episodes, though certain outlets report up to ten episodes under consideration.

English actor, comedian, author, and television presenter James Corden is most known in the US for presenting The Late Late Show with James Corden from 2015 until 2023 and in the UK for co-creating and starring in the popular series Gavin & Stacey.

In The Choir, Corden plays Ben, a character who comes home after living abroad. Jones plays Lisa, Ben's sister, who stayed behind in their sleepy community.

With parts in Peter Rabbit, Into the Woods, and Cats, he has a career spanning television, movies, theater, and musicals. He has received a BAFTA, many Emmys, and a Tony Award. In addition to being the founder of Carpool Karaoke, Corden received an OBE in 2015 for his services to theater. He still performs, writes, and produces all around the world.

The story is about reconnecting and rediscovering feelings, and the tone is said to be calm, inspiring, and funny in a friendly way. Fulwell 73, Corden's production business, is making the series. This strengthens a long-standing creative engagement with Apple TV+ that began with Carpool Karaoke.

Additional details about The Choir

The project is designed to feature a distinctly British cast. This is mainly beyond the two leads, although supporting actors have not yet been announced, and as per reports, most of the industry insiders describe the series as balancing gentle humor with relatable family dynamics, aiming to appeal both to domestic audiences and to Apple’s growing international subscriber base.

Filming is scheduled to commence in 2026 with a potential release window projected for 2027. Apple TV+'s Europe programming executive is reportedly backing the project as part of the platform's emphasis on emotionally affirming and character-driven storytelling, further distinguishing the platform from darker contemporary TV trends.

At this stage, casting beyond Corden and Jones remains unannounced, and all plot and scheduling details remain provisional until an official Apple TV+ announcement is made.
