Superman has been an absolute hit at the North American box office since its July 11 release, so when the DC co-head and filmmaker James Gunn joined the Peacemaker Season 2 panel, he was welcomed with immense love and celebration from fans.
For the filmmaker who loves comic books and grew up with that art form, to receive love and appreciation from fans who love the art form as much as he does was an extremely emotional moment for Gunn.
James Gunn, DC co-head of DC Studios, joined the Peacemaker Season 2 panel to express immense love and appreciation

For the first time since Superman's box-office release in July, James Gunn surprised fans at San Diego Comic Con when he joined John Cena and Jennifer Holland at the Peacemaker Season 2 panel with Joshua Horowitz as the moderator.
When Peacemaker Season 2 panel moderator Horowitz mentioned this piece of information:
"James this is the first time you’ve been in front of crowd since Superman"
The entire Hall, packed to the brim with 6,500 people, welcomed the filmmaker with a standing ovation and unending enthusiasm, love, and appreciation. Such a welcome would make anybody emotional, let alone a filmmaker who has loved comics since he was a kid and now has the chance to bring them to life for people who love them just as he does. James Gunn conveyed his love and gratitude for the fans after the ovation as he started getting emotional:
"I make these kinds of movies because I respect and love what these people do so much, and I’m going to be very honest right now. I was looking at the art that you guys did…and it touches me so deeply…it’s so beautiful. This is the art form that I grew up loving…It’s so wonderful what you do."
He also went on to specifically express his love and gratitude for the comic buffs who had specially made it to the Peacemaker Season 2 panel because of their love for the comics. To James Gunn, they were the real fans (the crowd erupted in cheers once again at that one).
"The reason I’m so happy to be here with you guys, is because this is the real fans here."
He explained that the immense love he received from the people in the hall and the people on the Peacemaker Season 2 panel meant the most to him, for many reasons, but also because he found himself relating to them. He went on to recount a childhood story where his father, whom he didn't have the best relationship with, brought James Gunn to a comic convention in an effort to bond with his son. That day, when his father took him to the Chicago convention, continues to be one of the greatest nights of his life, he explained:
"to this day it was the greatest day of my life."
Therefore, to be a part of that panel and receive the immense love and appreciation that he was receiving meant more to him than words could describe.
