Peacemaker Season 2 is inching towards its August 21 release, and as the first season was a part of the now-defunct DC Extended Universe, Season 2 is on entirely new ground in the DC Universe. The shift between the two seasons could be too confusing for fans to handle, but HBO Max and James Gunn have been on top of promotional materials and the official podcast, clearing up what's canon in the DCU and what's not.
According to Gunn, the majority of Season 1 is canon in the DCU, except for the ending, where the Justice League arrived a little too late in the finale to help the Peacemaker. The Official Podcast with James Gunn has also revealed that after the 2025 Superman, Season 2 is the direct follow-up to the movie and is canon to the universe. Considering the anti-hero's position as a centerpiece in the DC Universe and the Superman cameo, fans have been wondering if Christopher Smith would shift to the big screen.
James Gunn offered an interesting answer to this question, possibly teasing an exciting future for Christopher Smith without actually revealing any details. Keep reading to find out what he said.
James Gunn teases The Peacemaker's shift to the big screen ahead of Season 2 premiere
Since Peacemaker was the only panel at this year's Comic-Con for DC, fans have been confident that the anti-hero's role in the newly developing canon will be bigger than ever.

This was initially proved in Christopher Smith's cameo in the 2025 Superman. When the Man of Steel's purpose, given to him by his parents when he was sent to Earth, was revealed, the DC canon was heavily changed. It's revealed that Superman was sent to Earth to conquer it and not to protect it. After this reveal, several pre-existing heroes took this chance to trash Superman. One of these people was John Cena's Christopher Smith.
The scene where Peacemaker thrashes Superman was hilarious and cut a lot of tension in the film. However, his cameo in the film has established entirely new traditions, leading fans to question if Christopher Smith is tied down to HBO Max or if he could move onto the big screen for a feature film.

Gunn provided a diabolical answer to the questions, saying that even though he does know the answer to the question, he was not at liberty to reveal it. Instead of straight disagreement, Gunn answered without agreeing or disagreeing. He then went on to undercut his answer by cracking a joke about losing his knuckles to a cigar cutter if he revealed the secret.
"I actually know the answer to that question. And I am not at liberty to say under penalty of the Safran punishment, which is a loss of my knuckle. Every time I give away something, Peter Safran will take away another joint of my finger. It’s very painful. He uses a cigar cutter."
It would have been much easier for Gunn to explain that, being a TV character, Peacemaker could not have a feature film. But this teasing reply has fans convinced that the character could get a feature-length film in the DC Universe in the future.
If Christopher Smith's Peacemaker were to appear in a feature film, it would open up the universe to a myriad of options. Considering the fact that the Season 2 trailer has revealed the 11th Street Kids accompanying Christopher Smith, they could even be a part of a future feature film.
The possibilities are endless!
